I'm torn. I desperately want Portugal to get thrashed, but I fear if I actually cheer for France it won't go my way. Though I did cheer for Italy last night (but in a tempered way) and they pulled it out.

I have a bad feeling about the state of my vocal cords at the end of tonight's game.

If we look at this world cup, I think the most "classical italian" team is not italy, it's portugal (repeated "harmless" fouls, dives, tight defense).

Well, another weekend on an island w/ no cars (and no TV). Needless to say, I was quite pleased to see all the Azzurri shirts spilling out of the bars as we drove down Second Ave. late yesterday afternoon. Given the anti-Italy sentiment shown here, I'll (hopefully) take some extra pleasure as they dismantle today's winner in the final...

FORZA ITALIA!

You're not dealing with a bunch of "ignorant posters" here. Just fyi you know. But you are talking about a league where the top four finishers this year have all been indicted for match-fixing. Yeehaw. Juve is being sent to Serie C and the others to Serie B for christ's sake! What does that say to you about the nature of Italian football? There's no argument that Serie A is great league. We've all seen it. But chill a little. Ask 100 football fans who is most prone to diving and you'll get probably 5 different answers.

Hmmm, never heard of 'em! Can't be too famous can they? How about Kareem Abdul Jabar? What about Cacious Clay? Where's Bobby Unser?

Yeah, two wins from the 1930s. What does that have to do with anything? Some of these "all-time" stats are really ridiculous. Poor Uruguay. They're two-time winners yet no one talks about them as a world-leader in footy. If you get rid of the pre-war wins, Italy is on par with France, England, and Uruguay with one win.

I think your post above has proved my point about ignorant posters.

0-1 France...

Since Portugal never won a world cup, I really would like them to win; although, if France beats Portugal, Italy is going to wipe the floor with France.

Now that France is coasting is when its time for Portugal to strike back.

whichever of these guys gets through is going to get killed by Italy. There's no spark whatsoever.

Nothing much to watch. I just sit here with my scoring cards grading the Portugese dives. Normally I would do that for Italy since they're such a bunch of whiney divers but Portugal seems to be taking that over. There went another one (76th min).

France dont seem interested in getting out of their own half since they scored,I think they will still win because Portugal have nothing up front. But if they dont they deserve all they get.Yaaaaaaawn!
