Catching up:

I fail to see how the officiating could not be perceived as poor. Pope's yellow-to-red: tackled a little late (still touched ball) from the side, cleats down. Sorry, but that is not a card. If calls like that had come to pass back when I played, a brawl would have ensued. But I guess that's what separates the amateurs from the pros.

And that game as a whole was horrifying. The fact that McBride is often seen as America's best chance to score is really, really frightening. He's a mediocre player at best. The only person that, for me, stood out as playing well is Convey. Surprised by his intensity.

Brazil is looking a little shoddy. Definitely not playing as a team but obviously the most skilled team in the tourney. The France tie was pretty heartbreaking, as Zidane is my favorite player of forever.

Also, excited about Rooney starting. The British are going to do better than expected, me thinks.

Well, um, actually a pretty nice little saturday, we're um, we're gonna go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed Bath And Beyond, I don't know. I Don't know if we'll have enough time...

She's hot, though. I'd go to BB & B for her.

Back to computer after weekend in technologiacal Siberia - did see Italy v. U.S. game on tiny B/W set w/ terrible reception. Italy were, to put it politely, flat. U.S. did well to hang on for the draw. Refereeing was 'not good'. De Rossi's foul was stupid in the extreme. This is not the first time he's done this, and I will only say that it is (in my view) the result of thoughtless overly-aggressive play, and not malicious poor sportmanship - I'm glad to see he immediately apologized to McBride and his Italian teammates. Italy must shake things up for the Czech game. Lippi has ended up paying for his personal feud w/ Christian Panucci...

Currently watching Spain-Tunisia,in another thread I had Puyol down as one of the best players in the world, but on this performance he is not even the best in his own home.

some replies to the previous posts:

1. yes, it was mcbride who was offside. i stand corrected.

2. i'm not saying mcbride is terrible, but he is hardly national team material. i would think that they could have chosen any random center forward from any of the highly ranked college teams, and that guy would do at least as well as mcbride.

3. france scored 2 goals against korea, but in defence of the ref, it was the linesman who missed the call. the referee didn't have a good angle to call that.

4. i'm done discussing the u.s./italy match.

5. i saw the second half of the spain/ tunisia match today and it was the first time during this tournament that i have seen a ref clearly siding with one team over the other. tunisia deserved to lose, but it's tough enough to beat spain with an impartial ref. it's impossible to beat them if the ref is against you too.

He was injured in a car accident when he was 2 years old. The car's glass broke. One lucky guy.

It's too bad the french are not like the italians and did not vehemently demonstrated after the goal, it would have probably been awarded...
