maybe you should complain about what the players are doing, or about the ref making incorrect calls, but simply stating a certain number of penalties or cards is meaningless.

The game was Ivory Coast-Serbia & M.
The guy was a joke in the England game and seemed to think the 50,000 fans had come to watch him.You are right the stats are meaningless and I didnt even see the game. But reading the report I saw the stats and thought thats strange the game must have been extremely bad tempered or the ref was a punk, then I see its Mr Rodriguez then the stats made sense.
If someone saw the game please tell me I am wrong.
By the way we have bad refs in England too,so dont defend this muppet just because he is Mexican.

i'm not defending him. i didn't see the game. i'm just sick of people pointing at the number of cards or penalties in a game and using that as 'evidence' that the referee was bad.

as someone who has played the game since i could walk, i love to see refs who enforce the rules. shirt pulling, grabbing, and violent tackles have no place in the game, and the only way to put an end to it is to lay down the law with an iron fist.

Glad I am not the only one who feels this way. Rugby should be violent. Not football.

I only saw the second half of the first half ( ), but the Argentines were definitely taking it to the Dutch - Tevez, Messi & Rodriguez were dominating...my man Cufre didn't look so bad either

Wasn't impressed by argentina nor netherland. After all the praise I had heard, one should just admit that serbia failed psychologically and had a very shitty defense.
Pretty bad refeering again. Van Persie was all coked up and should have been at least carded. They just had to make sure everyone could play the next game
There is something rotten in this world cup.

Arg-Ned

Too many people on the bench I guess. I don't know what the reason was, but it was boring. I was watching it at a friend's house and we both nodded off at one point or another in the second half. Snoooze.

US-Ghana and Italy-Czech today.

Another mysterious call. Googh's arms are out to the side yet gets called for a push. First two yellows were completely inexplicable also. Not to mention one on Lewis for something that a Ghanain player did a few minutes later for no call. Sheesh.

At least we scored a goal on our own. But lost Reyna (and Googh? Was he booked for that?).

Its 2-1 now, and almost at half time.

Pull McBride off, put Johnson on. Please.

Well, time to start looking at 2010.

Who replaces Arena? I hate the idea that many clubs (football, basketball, American football, anything) of firing managers who don't get immediate results, but Arena has had 8 years. He did great for the last cup, but now we need something new. I say a Dutch coach.

Beasley needs to ask himself some questions about how he plays also. I don't know if it's the coaching or him, but we haven't seen the exciting going-at-them-head-on player he used to be.
And can we please end our obsession with Landon Donovan? He has proven again and again that he cannot play on this stage. Or, at best, that it's up to his whimsy. Maybe that's worse.

For both McBride and Reyna the right thing to do is retire from international football and force the coaching staff to look at the younger guys.

Finally saw the highlights. Ghana seemed to have played with incredible gusto. And whoever the US defender was who had the ball stolen and left dumbfounded by Ghana's #23 (and had that piledriver of a goal scored right afterwards) ... should not be on the team. That is the sort of mistake I would do, not a suppossed world class footballer.
Ghana wil be in trouble next stages as they will be facing the big boys but it is great to see an energetic African team in a tournament so far dominated by european all-defensive playing and Latin-american sloppy football. New blood.

Brazil won 4-1 against Japan (anyone surprised?).

Am I the only one that thinks the finals might be Argentina vs. Brazil?
