Shenzhen and Hong Kong Tailors

Hi,
I have a unique opportunity to visit some friends for 5-6 days in Shenzen and Hong Kong and therefore I am looking for recommendations for any tailors or other clothing goods that I can take a look at or find while I am there.

For shirts I know the long standing favorite Jantzen whom I will visit for some shirts.

For suits in HK I know there is WW Wang however I am not looking to spend that much ($1000) on a suit as simply enough my current work position does not require me to wear or spend so much on a suit. Therefore for suits I am looking for recommendations for any places in Shenzen.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

I don't know - you might be best off sticking with WW Wang Everyone here seems to worship the Wang.

Wang is the best in town!

You really should try to get as much Wang as possible while in Hong Kong.

I'd forget WW Wang and try WW Chan, but I doubt he'll do a suit under $1000US.

There are others you could try like Baroman and Y William Yu that are very well regarded, but although cheaper than Chan, are still going to be over your $1000.

I'd stick with Jantzen. Unless you are a Briony/Kiton man and insist on the absolute top notch, then Jantzen will do you a perfectly acceptable jacket or suit for well under Chan's prices.

As for Shen Zen, I had this discussion last night over dinner.......I wouldn't even consider it. Whilst I've been up there 3 or 4 times, it was for knock-offs only. If you like being followed and manhandled by touts then by all means go and enjoy.

Last night I heard an awful story about a woman questioning the claims of a fabric seller/tailor with whom she'd had a long relationship. She refused to accept the finished products without changes. She was surrounded by a group and threatened. This from a woman who's been going there for years.

Shen Zen had a dreadful reputation a few years back with taxi scams and kidnappings involving men and women. It is much better now. If you want a good fake Patek Philipe watch or a Mont Blanc wallet or even a decent cotton Paul & Shark jumper, then by all means.

If you have a friend or acquaintance whose taste you trust and they have a relationship with a Shen Zen tailor, then fine, different story, otherwise you're likely to be a lamb to the slaughter and end up with a suit similar in quality to those on offer in every Indian tailor's Bangkok window display.

Give Jantzen the job and save yourself the hassle.

Sounds like a shill for Jantzen. Do you do PR for Rajah's Fashion as well?

To be fair, the job that Jantzen did for Benjamin831 was very good and certainly excellent for the price. However, I seem to remember it took a lot of prodding to get it to such a state.

And there lies the problem with most Hong Kong tailors. Lots of prodding, even those higher end fellows need a prod or two.

By the way, two Wongs don't make a Whight.

In my opinion, 5-6 days is not enough time for proper bespoke clothing. Even if you go directly to a tailor and get measured on your first day, and a tailor is willing to try to complete clothing for you within that time frame, I believe you would be too rushed with subsequent fittings to have the time or leisure to make the adjustments necessary to get things right.

Again, this is just my opinion. Perhaps someone has a different experience. If so, wonderful. If not, just go and enjoy your trip, and perhaps stop into a couple of tailors' shops to get an idea of who you would like to go to on your next trip (when you have more time.)
