Baltazar belts on ebay - Page 2

thanks LA Guy, i'm in the process of selecting a belt - EG, redmoon, one of these, maybe a visvim but i can't really judge the actual quality of the belt. of the baltazar's I only really like the black silver studs belt- but that width looks huge- does it really fit into most jeans? there's not that much extra room when i wear my cheap three row pyramid belt. i guess i should measure. i never did understand why HTC belts were so expensive.

If you order, you can get the belts extra wide, but the general width is just .75 inches, which is pretty typical for jeans belts. HTC belts are expensive because of the hype. Their original belts were all constructed from vintage belts from all over (mostly the US), but I have a feeling that they don't do that any more. I guess that I like Baltazar more that Redmoon for 2 reasons.

1) Not as hyped up among denimheads
2) Distinctive patterns. The studs belt is a really interesting take on the typical pyramid belt, and great quality. I find that Red Moon and HTC belts have very similar patterns, just that the former is better made.

i don't like the redmoon stud/western belts- if i got a redmoon, it'd just be the plain leather. i have searched for a good quality pyramid belt for ages, i don't think they exist. i just have a soft spot for certain punk/goth fashion- but not rock and roll rockstar fashion. is someone bidding on this belt? don't want to cramp someone's style haha. are there any other companies that are worth looking into? the standard width of a belt is .75 in.? isn't that super thin? i thought it was something like 1.5-1.75

Whoops, I meant 1.75 inches. Yeah, 0.75" is really thin. Even the thin belts APC and Dior have out currently are closer to 1".

What I don't like about Red Moon is that it seems, like a lot of other things, people go buck wild over it because it's "endorsed" by the Japanese web pages, and after first hearing about it shoot off about how it's the best and nothing comes close. I suspect that this is the hype you're referring to, LA Guy... And I have to agree. However I still find that RM and Baltazar are so different in their takes on style. Baltazar is so distinctly LA.. there's nothing western about it. The feel, style and hardware speaks so directly to the west coast fashionistas. RM is classic and very basic.

Yeah, you're probably right, and this probably is why I like Baltazar more as well. It just fits my aesthetic.

i totally agree with you on hype. but i must say that the stuff isn't "just all hype" because the quality is actually good. i think its my fault i kick started the red moon craze when i posted up the wallet braid i bought in hong kong on superfuture. i've just been living with crappy belts for far too long- one of my belts actually lasted 2 years before it started falling apart. the belt i'm using now fell apart in 2 months (granted it was $5 in hong kong haha). but i'm having a really hard time finding a quality belt that fits my aesthetic. i'll probably try and win this baltazar, but its just a bit over-designed for me. maybe i'll like it better in the flesh. right now i just need something to hold my pants up.

The red moon hype has been around for awhile, actually. It is great quality stuff. I love most Red Moon stuff. I am just annoyed by the kids, mostly on Superfuture, who proclaim it as being so excellent, when they often have nothing to compare it to. It seems when something is recommended by a Japanese person or website, all of the sudden the credibility of everyone else goes down. No idea why.

Well, seeing redmoon wallet wear on the denim-gallery.heavy Eternal 811s really does a lot to promote the brand---that's what got me interested in redmoon. I have no frame of reference whatsoever for quality leather goods, in fact, I suppose I am even morally opposed to it, but that site, and other "color falling" diaries are incredibly seductive. Some of those japanese denimheads are like celebrities to me. I guess I'm no different than those celebrity-wanabee True Religion-types. It isn't difficult to make sense of the phenomenon. Why so much hostility?

Meh I dunno. It's not hostility, it's just frustration. You hear the same thing so many times. I log on the boards a lot just because I like to answer questions, and it gets frustrating when people disregard things you've said before because they heard something that they think is different (often times, its not) from a Japanese website.

yeah, it never really took off though since no one could get it. i agree, with brian though- i think a lot of the people are just saying this and that just because they heard it. but i guess with all these japanese things that's all you can go on until you actually go to japan and look at the stuff or acquire it somehow. so it's stupid when you think about it but it also makes sense.

Meh, I guess I can't really talk as hype is what eventually led me to my Red Moon wallet, but: why do you guys hang out at Superfuture anyway? I discovered it via this board. I just read a couple pages of the, "HOT hoodies" thread and my head exploded. Most of the threads have a similar effect. No offense to anyone here. Just trying to make a point that I regard you guys highly and that board just seems sooooo filled with garbage.

There's still some good info on the Superfuture boards, both in the SuperShopper and especially the SuperDenim sections. There are lots of annoying people (something we've been able to avoid for sometime here) but there are a lot of cool people as well. So I won't discount it altogether.

I'm not trying to pick on everyone who likes Red Moon - as I said I'm guilty myself, I love everything I've seen.

Yeah, I'm sick and have absolutely nothing to do today so I'm message board trolling among other useless (scoff!) activities. Since my post I've been slogging through the Superdenim forum and I agree, there is a lot of great information there. I guess there's just so much of it you're bound to get a lot of crap. I think I'll stick it out and just browse there. I've just been spoiled by this forum.
