This is probably the audio format that has the most Snob Appeal:

I especially like the fact that each tape costs $500.

I am planning to acquire a Reel to Reel machine and record assorted mp3s onto magnetic tape. Mr.Bungle's California album was never released on vinyl so I shall record it onto magnetic tape.

So I can spend good amounts of money and time and feel nerdy and superior whilst living out my retro-tech fetishes re-recording weird contemporary music.

Refreshing honesty

A good friend has spent some time with these guys and is duly impressed. He's not the kind of audiophile to be won over easily and exercises impressive critical judgement when it comes to sound and system building -- and his rig is very anti-name brand / cost oriented gear.

A rather good reason to like LK, IMHO.

It's not worth it until you spend $100 on 40 year old reels of magnetic tape.

My buddy Nick has several and we are transferring them into DVD-Audio format. The tapes are terrific but $500 is insane. They were originally $350 or so but the mastering is terrific as it is tape to tape done by Paul Stubblebine, one of the best. Luxman has been demoing these at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest the past couple of years. Superb sound.

I am known for this saying, among others. I hate tape.

That's odd. I find 1:1 dubs of master tapes on tape to sound very natural and lifelike.

It's not the sound. It's the robustness of the medium. It is poor.
