LEC has no deadline policy for returns right?

Yeah, that could be the straw that broke the camel's back. Nothing is forever in retail; not even landsend's return policy.

Costco has turned it's back on it's open ended return policy. Every other major retailer has tightened up it's return policies also, due to constant, large scale fraud.

Landsend typically deals with lower cost items, as opposed to $2K to $4K TV's and the like, but there's nothing written in stone.

Yes, many times. Under $20 tax/duty free. However I was looking at a $100 jacket. 20% off takes you to $80... taxes and duty over $20 and now you're over the $100 price tag. Should have made the purchase in December .

That explains why I've never had to deal with taxes/duty with them, I've purchased a bunch of times, but never over $20 at a time.

stopped into the LEC store today and got to check out the waxed canvas field jacket in person. Really surprisingly nice. Generous fitting, a medium was fine on me and I take a large in EG or Gitman for example. At the $96 they were selling it for it's a hell of a coat...tempted to pick it up but just don't need one.

 

I was able to return something to Costco a couple weeks ago w/o a receipt. Many other retailers with lenient return policies like Kohl's are still doing it. Once you have a great return policy, altering it would be quite bad for the business unless it can compensate with something else. Customers dont quickly forget these things quickly.

Yeah, LE's excellent return policy isn't going anywhere. It one of their biggest selling points, and it's a huge reason why people keep shopping there over the long haul. It's the same reason why I buy all my hiking/camping stuff at REI -- because I know they'll always stand behind their products, it's the first place I turn to for outdoor gear.

I know that some companies will freeze out specific people who abuse the system. Someone in the Men's Clothing side returned 95% of his purchases from Sierra Trading Post, so they politely told him not to order from them anymore since their products weren't meeting his standards. This is more likely to happen to serial returners at LE rather than eliminating their "Guaranteed. Period" policy.

+1 -- and, I'll add, now that LLB has free shipping (again!) I took another spin through their catalog and bought a few things. That, combined with their return policy, goes a long way to overcoming my distaste at what kind of company they've become.

I'll add Brooks Brothers to retailers with great return policies. Once you get in their system they'll take anything back, any time, and are super-quick to fulfill substitutions on open orders, even on "final sale" items. Plus they have stores everywhere so if you don't feel like boxing things up again you can drop off returns there.

What's wrong with LLB?

As far as costco's return policy, they've shored it up by reducing the return period for electronics to 90 days. They'll be happy to take back the $10 holiday ham you bought six months still sitting in your freezer though.
