Used n00b DSLR advice: Canon 350D vs. Nikon D50

I'm looking for a cheap used DSLR, and I've narrowed it down to two options (prices are in Canadian)

Canon Digital Rebel XT 350D with 18-55mm kit lens: $300

Nikon D50 with Sigma 18-200mm lens: $350

Is the Sigma lens much better than the Canon kit lens? That is the main advantage of the Nikon over the Canon. I like the Canon for the size as I do plan on taking it on trips, but I am afraid of it being too small as I have long fingers and do not expect to shoot continuously for hours at a time.

Canon Advantages:
  • 2 more megapixels
  • Smaller size
  • Cheaper

Nikon Advantages:
  • Non-kit, better lens
  • Bigger size, more comfortable
  • CMOS lower power consumption
  • 2.0" LCD screen (1.8 in canon)

Sigma lenses are meh. The canon has more AF points, more MP, more FPS, and a few other minor advantegeous differences. I would choose the canon. BUT if getting in close on your subject(s) is really important than go with the longer lens. I still say fuck that nikon and that shitty sigma

Don't buy based on the lens. You can upgrade that later. Get the camera body that you like more. 18-200mm? Have fun lugging that around if it's your only lens!
