What about score/play time? Or different ranks for different game types?
There are many possibilities. I really think what they originally did was look at Socom, because it's the only real game out there that can compete with COD, and try to smooth out the kinks. After taking it all into consideration, I think they came to the conclusion that a rank system based solely on playing time is the only system that can't really be cheated. They also probably figured that if you reach a 70 rank, or a 50 rank, you have to be somewhat decent if you have logged 48 hours into the game. I also think the maps could have been better. Some of the maps are just a cluster ****. Rundown is a great example of how a map should be designed. Best map, hands down. There isn't a single area on this map that's a cluster ****. You can move around the city many different ways. Buildings + jungle. It's the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. Terminal = cluster ****. You're getting shot in the back 5 seconds after spawning. It could have been designed better to avoid this. There are a couple other maps that have this same problem.
