There are many possibilities. I really think what they originally did was look at Socom, because it's the only real game out there that can compete with COD, and try to smooth out the kinks. After taking it all into consideration, I think they came to the conclusion that a rank system based solely on playing time is the only system that can't really be cheated. They also probably figured that if you reach a 70 rank, or a 50 rank, you have to be somewhat decent if you have logged 48 hours into the game. I also think the maps could have been better. Some of the maps are just a cluster ****. Rundown is a great example of how a map should be designed. Best map, hands down. There isn't a single area on this map that's a cluster ****. You can move around the city many different ways. Buildings + jungle. It's the perfect size. Not too big, not too small. Terminal = cluster ****. You're getting shot in the back 5 seconds after spawning. It could have been designed better to avoid this. There are a couple other maps that have this same problem.

I find it interesting the way they went about changing the level design format from MW1 to MW2. MW1 featured maps with choke points, meaning that one had to fight their way through the enemy team more often than not.

MW2, by comparison, features very porous level design. There are very few maps where it is practical to have "lines", and certainly not choke points. It is a roaming kill fest.

It is also interesting to look at the original Call of Duty vs. Call of Duty 2, which had the same relationship. CoD had maps with chokepoints, CoD2 opened them up. Personally, I think it's a little annoying.

Anyone else find the knife distance a little far fetched? I've gotten knifed by people who are 10ft from me on screen. Also, the radar really needs to go all together, except for air strikes.

At least in Halo when you played a lv. 50, you knew they were pretty good. Prestige lv can mean nothing in terms of how good you are.

If this has been discussed already I apologize, but too many pages to cycle through.

Different leveling systems. Levels are no indicator of skill in CoD, they're just to earn weapons. It would take more time to get to level 50 on Halo than on CoD, Halo's system allows you to go down while CoD doesn't.

I love Terminal, abusing clusterfucks are a great way of taking advantage of the map. I don't even need to see a person at clusterfuck point 1 because I already know they'll be there. So much fun. I dislike the porous-ness of some of the new maps, but it's probably because they just take longer to take advantage of, need more time to learn them. I feel like I learn something new every day.
