Dr. No, I've been on the fence with Vass' designs for many months now, but I really like the U last designs you have...and the Oxblood color is just awesome

Great shoes

Too bad he doesn't travel to parts unknown, especially with his competitive bespoke pricing

I'm looking for lower end leather soled shoes - something around the 200 dollar mark. I was thinking florshiems perhaps? Unfortunately i can't afford allen edmonds or above . I also have large size 12 feet and well second hand I can't find a thing. Does anybody have any suggestions?

This is not the best thread to have this conversation, and there are other threads out there that discuss this issue. But right at the moment there are over 50 pairs of size 12 Allen-Edmonds shoes on ebay being sold by the company (AE) itself, with a 14-day return policy, and all of them in the range of 120-150 bucks. Go!

l repeat grimslade's advice. You don't want to be getting Florshiems. GO get those AE for cheap, you will never regret it. They will make you feel so good. Don't knock the advice, we know it will be good for you.

Well done! Vass has become more capable and flexible in making new models and modifications. As recent as a year & a half ago, Ava said the double monk could only be made on the F-last, the double monk U turned out beautifully. The one on the bottom right is not Italian oxford, it's medallion oxford in Vass speak; Italian oxford has an Adelaide throat. I love that over-sized medallion which is unique to Austro-Hungarian shoe making tradition, fritzl can correct me if I am wrong. I thought the huge medallion would go well only with clunkier toes, but it's magnicficient on the U-last, very well done.

Here's another example of the over-sized medallion (on the full brogue and especially on the cap in rear right) by Materna of Vienna:

New Borgioli...a make that doesn't get much love here at SF, but I rather like them - from their elite FAM line. Scored them at a local shop having a remodeling sale...the 60% discount was

According to the store owner, Borgioli will be pulling out of the American market. He said that the bulk of their production was being bought up for sale in Russia.

Borgiolis are great shoes. They are well-liked on SF, they just aren't available in a lot of places. If they are really dropping out of the US, that will be sad.

I can't find a good thread since there is so many when i search for shoe trees but is there a recommend source to get good cheap cedar shoe trees? I know costco had a deal going on a few weeks back with 10/pair but they don't have them anymore

Um sorry for posting in the wrong thread - there are so many wonderful shoes here, I feel so small with my RM williams boots!

I've been lurking for a little while now so I never really felt like I was new or that that was my first post! However expect more from me

Anyways back on track I'll depart till i have some nice shoe porn of my own .

Nordstrom Rack. If you don't have one of those nearby, keep an eye on Sierra Trading Post.

Sorry to hear about Borgioli leaving the U.S. Some of their stuff is pretty wild for my tastes, but I've seen several pairs I quite liked. Harry, what do you plan to wear yours with? I like the antiquing, at least judging by the pics, and would be interested to see them once they've had some wear.

VR, with your extended photo essays(Vienna part 1 & 2), you brought the Austro-Hungarian style to a wider attention on SF. Great.

As far as I know and due to my personal experience. The size and style of the medaillon is a mixture of "house" style and historic patterns.

For example: Ludwig Reiter(RTW) is always very authentic with "our" classic styles. Their models are a good reflection to the heritage of the past. They run a customization program, but I have no idea, if they offer a "change" of the toe medaillon.
