Those look a lot like my bespoke Lattanzis.

You are right ... but only partly. Germans tend to badmouth their country and especially the behaviour of other germans. That is the heritage of our history. But usually we are sure that our products are the best. Therefore it is not typical to be disgusted by Dinkelacker. To make matters worse: I'm also half-italian but I strongly prefer Lobb and EG in comparison with Santoni or Lattanzi.

I have never met or worked with a German who would've commented poorly on his country. Quite the opposite, I've found every German I ever met to posses innate superiority complex toward everyone non-German.

What business are you in?

Also, I don't think we are bad-mouthing our country or countrymen, we are just being less deceptive about it than other nations.

Germans are proud of their products and technical achievements. They could be proud on all the things that work in their country and not in any other, but they do not realize that until the day they start living abroad. As tourists, they always find any place better than home. However, I have never come across a German who has a superiority complex towards other nations. The opposite is the case. Thanks to the history that the majority is of course totally innocent of, Germans are always afraid that someone will attack them just because of their heritage. That's why so many hide their origins when abroad. I would not be surprised if stilmacher is trying his hardest to speak perfect French when in Paris, making sure nobody spots him as a German. Is he in a Paris shop that happens to have German customers, he will either ignore them or speak French to them, so they get no idea that he is in fact a countryman. That is typical behavior of an educated German. I shit you not. Trust me, you will hardly find any other nation that when two citizens meet somewhere abroad will in fact speak in the local togue to each other rather than their own. Germans do that a lot. Can you imagine a couple of English lads meeting in Spain and talking Spanish to each other? Unimaginable that is! Oh, and here's a little story for stilmacher: The other day I had dinner in The Line restaurant in the Singapore Shangri-La. When I was finished and just about to leave, a lady walked up to me and said "Can you tell me your nationality? I've got a bet going." I replied asking what I would win should I give the right answer. Supposedly the girls on a table a bit further away had been watching me and were betting over a bottle of bubbly. I went to their table and learned that many of them considered me German because of my outfit and especially the great shoes. I'd been wearing my JL Aintrees in Cashew that night. A few days later a local guy in the grocery store of Takashimaya starts speaking German to me. I ask him why and he says that according to my shoes, I've got to be German. That day I wore my Vass U-last Old English. Go figure!

Yes, but not for the reason you suggest. The reason would be because neither speaks Spanish (or any other language than English). Whereas I have yet to meet a German who does not speak English at least, and often one or two others.

Karl Lagerfeld said in an interview that he probably would not have been successful in France (consider that he went there not too many years afer the war) if he couldn't speak perfect French, so that it wasn't revealed that he's a "boche" when he spoke with somebody (that shall be only irony if any French read that^^).

I am surprised you consider me educated after the last couple of my posts you replied to...
Have a shoe-picture as a token of my gratitude.

Love these shoes, love the color ... EG Birch! Stilmacher, trust me, I have no doubts that you are educated and I am sure you are a fun guy altogether!

Birch it is indeed. If anyone has some, I would love to see more pictures of that colour.

Portnoy says that EG no longer offers it.

Oh no! I just thought about ordering a pair when I posted the picture. That would be a shame.
