How much cash do you carry?

I usually have about $100 in my wallet, and another $70 folded with my driver's license. I keep that aside, a $50 and a $20, as "emergency cash" so I'm not stuck in a situation where I need to pay for something and I've used all my cash. I also keep a folded $20 in the coin pocket of my jeans, in case I'm stuck without my wallet (e.g. it's in my coat pocket, and I've stepped out without my coat.)

I don't carry coins. Any coins I get as change, I put in the coin pocket but I empty it all into a large thing full of coins at home. I cash it in once or twice a year and it usually adds up to $500 - $1000.

I've been thinking of switching to a money clip and getting rid of the wallet altogether. Thoughts?

I carry my savings in a pouch under my cack, around 10 grand at the moment.

Almost never carry cash.

I started using a money clip recently. It's nice.

Almost none. Cash is subprime

Au contraire mon frere.. There are a number of reasons I keep cash on hand (like the OP, I have some extra for emergencies tucked away). 1> Some places actually don't take amex (heathen bastards) 2> Must be ready to tip 3> Credit card transactions take time... I hate when I am trying to get somewhere and some small-timer is paying for their $6 Chipotle burrito with a damn credit card 4> Big brother knows enough about me... I don't want to be plugged into the grid every second of every day. Cash is privacy. Privacy is power. Screw the money clip... get a rubber band

Heh, like 1, 2, 4 a lot. My wallet cash is usually < $20 though, but I keep $136 in my bag for whatever comes up --1 hundred, a twenty, a ten, a five, and a single. For a while I just kept a century, but that's stupid. ~ H

Kalra used to carry several hundred thousand dollars with him

Carry much cash on you=shit out of luck if you get mugged
Don't carry cash=get mugged=possibly get shot by the mugger out of spite
about $200 in cash on a person would save you from the above

I carry about $60 bucks with me in my wallet. Don't use it much.

if I'm out for the evening usually 200-300. I don't like to use a card because the totals can quickly skyrocket. I don't carry the cash in my wallet-always in a front pocket

On any given day usually sub $40.

I like Huntsman's 136 idea for the odd situation.

I like Huntsman's technique too - I'm going to get a $100, a $10, and a $5 to add to my stash. I'm in Canada, so anything below $5 is a coin.

Huntsman - why no $50 in your stack o' cash?

I've been considering using cash for everything, and not paying debit / credit. It feels more like spending "money" when there are actual bills. And I too have no time for small-timers paying for a $0.99 bottle of soda with a personal check

General rule is never go anywhere locally without at least $40 on hand.

I only use cash when there is no other alternatives. Credit cards are great inventions.
