Kombucha

Do any of you guys drink it or brew your own? I like it raw, brewed from Yunnan Golden Silk. It's also good with ginger or rosehips. The live culture used in the fermentation process supposedly has a lot of health benefits, but I haven't seen any evidence supporting that.

it is great. I use a special darjeeling brand which produces a very clear but tasty tea, so my kombucha doesn't look like dead algae. but I prefer to use ginger for water kefir, which I usually drink when my kombucha is brewing. sometimes I use raisins, a fig or date. I got heavy allergies, and it helped me reduce them. still looking for a good barrel to produce more than a half gallon each time ..

I've never felt a difference drinking it. Buy the one at whole foods, tastes like rank grape juice.

then you should try a gallon a day. eventually you will get a heavy headache because of its purification effects ..

Had some of this today. Wasn't too bad.

Not sure if it's my cup of tea though.

My mother did this in the mid-90s. She had fish bowels that she would breed them in. I always hated the smell and taste. She grew so many that she had to throw some out. She would also read about them on web rings(anyone remember those?) and there was a lot of pseudo-science. One of the more amusing ones was about a kombucha grower that would apply the tea to her husbands head with a paintbrush. He regrew all of his hair within weeks!

Now you can get the tea bottled in most health food stores. I had some a few months ago and it's just as awful as it ever was.
