Thoughts on Parker-Takam?

Personally think it's way too big of a step-up for Parker. He's barely fought anyone in the top 30, let alone a legitimate top 10 fighter. It could get really ugly.

Looks like dudes going to wait til GGG is 40 before he fights him.

WBA says it's make GGG and Jacobs for the belt, which is probably a more interesting fight?

Good win for Parker over Takam.

Tough fight but he's now more proven than Joshua. Still needs a couple more fights to get where he needs to be. Some defensive weaknesses.

I hope Ward vs Kovalev gets made this year. Andre needs at least one more tune up fight before stepping in with Kovalev.

Most people see it as a 50-50 fight, but I'm leaning towards Ward. Ward has shown that he can fight at all 3 ranges: outside, mid, and inside.

I've only seen Kovalev fight on the outside, while Andre has shown more dimensions to his game. It will be interesting to see if Ward can close the distance and bully Kovalev on the inside, making it a rough fight at times. If Andre can find his range and impose his game plan, I think we might see a frustrated Kovalev.

On the other hand, if Kovalev hurts Andre, Kovalev has shown that he is smart and patient enough to not over exhaust himself and fall for all of his opponent's traps.

The big factor in my prediction is whether Andre's long inactivity and injuries have diminished his abilities.

Overall, this should be a great fight that will likely catapult the winner to the top of the pound for pound rankings.

Kovalev's game plan will be fight on the outside and punish Ward's body early on, hoping for an opening to throw the straight right. I don't think Ward has Hopkin's chin, and going from his last fight, he'll probably tire out towards the end from Kovalev's onslaught. Ward will try to muddy things up, fighting on the inside and clinching, but I don't think he has the power to hurt Kovalev, so he'll need to depend on the cards and avoiding Kovalev's power.

I think Ward will get dropped at least once early and Kovalev will win a unanimous decision.

GGG vs Canelo

I think there will at least be one fight before they make this. It'll be a Canelo fight that nobody really wants to see, and it'll put more pressure on Golden Boy to actually make the GGG fight.

RIP Muhammad Ali

Thought that I'd restart an MMA thread, and also announce it here, since I know that some of you guys follow both sports: http://www.styleforum.net/t/524310/official-mma-thread-ufc-bellator-and-whatever-else-training-etc/

My own background is in MMA and kickboxing, so it's a subject that I know more than boxing, I think.  Note, I've also boxed, but it's pretty pathetic.

Sidenote - Mayweather vs. McGregor is such a dumb thing to even bring up.  Not sure why people are jumping on that publicity stunt.  It's like trying to compared the best triathlete against the best marathoner.  wtf.

RIP Ali. Even though he was before my time, I can understand and appreciate the impact he had on American culture.

I think throughout its history, boxing's popularity has ebbed and flowed. He was one of the few boxers who was able to transcend the sport to become a global cultural icon.

There's been reports that Golovkin is looking to move up to 168 lbs. I know that Golovkin wants to unify all the belts at 160, but in my eyes, he's been the undisputed Middleweight champ for a while.

If I were him, I'd save 10% of my purse from these crooked sanctioning organizations and move up in weight, unless a big fight with Canelo magically comes together.

Even though some of the bigger names have moved up in weight or retired (Ward, Froch, Kessler) there's some good names in the mix.

At 168 lbs, I'd like to see Golovkin against guys like Degale, Badou Jack, and the Dirrell brothers. At that weight, he would consistently fight as the smaller man. I think Golovkin would be tested and have a good chance at being a 2 weight champion.

He should unify and then wait for Canelo, who's running out of opponents at 155. Who's Canelo going to fight next?

gennady is reminding me of Kell Brook.

Like Kell Brook he's content with fighting unknowns because he can't face the glamour guy.

More importantly Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter very soon this Saturday. Keith is easily the most charismatic guy in boxing today. I hope he wins for this reason. Someone has to step up and be the star now that Floyd is gone.

Footage of them sparring years ago.

We haven't had a major fight with two athletic guys in awhile.

Keith "Sometimes" Thurman gets outworked and loses a decision.

lol8[1].gif hate on GGG is deep just because he didn't face the bigger Ward, get over it

Brooks the bum who hasn't fought anyone in the top after beating Porter

GGG has pretty much beaten half of the top 10 in his weight class and the one deemed as a true champ in the class keeps running and fighting someone smaller than him, his next fight is at 154 supposedly and vacate the title

GGG is trying to work at a Eubanks Jr fight next

Anyways, War v Kovalev is on in November as soon as they dispose each of their upcoming opponents

Ward vs Kovalev is an amazing fight, never thought that would happen.

It's annoying that Ward has to go up to get competition.
There's really no one in his weight class that could compete anyways plus I don't think he can get below 170 to fight at Super Middle after the long layoff.

IIRC his first comeback fight had to be fought at a catch weight of 172 because he isn't going to reach 168.

It's a huge fight for boxing fans. I hope an injury doesn't prevent it from happening and I hope it sells well.
