What are your plans for Thanksgiving this year?
Sadly, this is the first year I won't be with my family and the first year in the last 7 that I won't be cooking Tgiving dinner solely on my own. I feel bad. I will most likely bake them a couple pies when I'm home this weekend and freeze them for them to have at Thanksgiving. Actually, I don't even think we're doing Tgiving stuff at work, so I will likely be at home alone doing nothing on the special day *lone tear rolls down my face*.

So, to cheer me up, and to give other people ideas, come tell us what you plan on making and how you're gonna do it.

I wrestled with this one for the past few years. I've only got 2 total to cook for and I don't know what the hell I need all that food for. On the other hand, every single time I've tried to eat out on Thanksgiving its been a complete unmitigated disaster.

Add Thanksgiving somewhere to the title Kwilk.

Breakfast will be at Lola, lunch will be at home (will be making french toast with a special brioche bread from my local bakery), and dinner will be with family at some restaurant. Past years I've done mostly the same except for dinner, where I'd instead just stay home with friends and roast up a couple hens or pheasants. Last year I stuffed a truffle paste under the skin of one the birds, was incredibly delicious.

I'll probably go out the day before and buy a turkey sandwich at Subway, and put it in my fridge. That way I can have turkey on Thanksgiving.

Kind of in the same boat. Not bothering going home this year. Will be the first time away from family for TG. Debating whether I should try to get invited somewhere, invite some other displaced people over, or just ignore the holiday and get an early start reviewing for finals.

Go to McDonald's day before, put in refrigerator, reheat on Thanksgiving.

Little D should be with us for Thanksgiving again this year, so it will be us three, my folks (if they're not too butthurt at the time), and her folks. Maybe some friends if they're up for it.

Two turkeys, probably. Sweet potato casserole. Cranberries. Homemade rolls. Cornbread stuffing. Maybe a pie or two.

+1 on no family plans. I wont be able to get out of work to travel. Instead, I'll be joining a few friends in the city and I'll probably make a dish to bring.

traditional turkey. i am too lazy to brine. i just stuff the skin with orange and garlic and rosemary and thyme and baste with citrus juice, oil, salt, pepper and garlic.

sage/rye/chicken sausage stuffing with raisins and walnuts. (plus stovetop for my mother in law, all she eats)

pumpkin soup with panchetta and pine nuts.

pumpkin pie. apple pie.

stringbeans with slivered almonds. hot cider with cinnamon. corn on the cob.

mashed sweet potatoes.

I think the restaurant is doing a charity for the homeless dinner, but I'm not really sure. If not, I might just cook up a game hen or something so I feel like I'm in the season.
