Sorry to hear Slim. Her age and the 2 kids make it especially tragic. I'm at the age where I've lost many friends and acquaintances to cancer. Off the top of my head, Coach Rickey, Marvin Zindler, Patrick Swayze, and Bobby ( at your finger ) Finger have all died of cancer in the last few years. A lot of Houstonians would know these people. I'm no MD but I'm pretty sure that they all died from advanced colo-rectal cancer or pancreatic cancer, Bad stuff!

You are right Doc. MD Anderson here in Houston is nationally renowned for cancer treatment and sometimes "free treatment" is available. But there are logistics involved. Does the lady and her family have the means to get to Houston? Do they have the means to stay somewhere if they come to Houston. Would she want to be treated in Houston? I wish her well though as the Doc would say, "The prognosis is grim".

Heather is being treated here in Seattle at the UW Medical Center. I sort of doubt they will be traveling. I guess she's about a month into chemo and radiation. I am going to go visit today.

Slim: sorry to hear of your friend. Enjoy your visit and please make sure to continue to visit her. Many people don't know how to deal with a friend's illness and by default simply drop out of sight.

rnoldh's right. my sister is a neuro-oncologist there and they have a lot of experimental treatments and such that your friend, considering her young age, might be a good candidate for. they also have a staff who could help family members to cope in this situation. i could also ask around for you, just pm.

My grandmother died from this last year at age 78. She was diagnosed and slipped into a coma the next day, died the week after that. Fuck cancer.

My wife is a cancer survivor. Lost a co-worker to cancer this past week. Cancer sucks balls.

Slim, I'm so sorry to hear this news. There isn't much you can do except be there for them - lend an ear, bring food, etc. Good luck.

this isnt so bad at all... the sad bit is when you watch the person slowly lose their mind and/or body to the point where the death is honestly a relief. and yes fuck cancer
