Huntsman--you truly are an inspiration. Almost kinda makes me wish I drank like I used to.

Is the El Dorado 12y nearly as good as the 15y or are there huge differences in taste?

How is the El Dorado 3 in comparison to Havana Club's 3?

I think that that cost difference between the 15 and 12 is warranted. The 15 tastes more like a sipping rum, the 12 is rougher and borders on a mixing rum.

Thank you.

Agreed. I think its only <$10 difference too, so its not that much of a stretch.

You like the rough rum because you're a rough guy, not a pirate princess like us icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Went up a couple blocks and found this supermarket that turned out to be a 3-story temple of jawnz, it was heaven on earth. One whole floor for spirits and wines. I picked up a bunch of stuff, but wanted to note that I got a bottle of that discontinued(?) Havana Club Cuban Barrel Proof for a really fair price, just a few bucks more than the cheapest online price I'd seen, about $40. My groceries get delivered before noon and I might have a review of it before 1. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Have you had the 15?

In general, is the 15 more sweet? How sweet? As sweet as Ron Centenario XX?

Haha, thanks. I don't know whether to encourage you or not -- because I don't know how you drank! I drink, of course, like I enjoy it too much to ruin it. Which I do.

Had a rum sampling at the house last night. Results:

Plantation 2000 Jamacia - horrible nose on this. smells like rotten bananas. It was very weird in that it would mellow a bit after a pour, then when I'd come back to it the smell would return. Couldn't get over it.

Plantation barbados run 20th anniversary extra old - the nose on this was better but the taste was worse. sort of rotten bananas again. not impressed with the Plantation family, obviously.

Rum Martinique - rhum agricole Neisson reserve special - this one has a sort of creme brulee nose but really lacked any sort of body on the finish. Might have been helped with an ice cube but I doubt it.

Smith & Cross Traditional Jamacia Rum - Pure Pot Still Navy Strength - The strongest of the bunch at 57% alcohol, it literally tasted like rum cut with rubbing alcohol. Horrible.

Bought some Zacapa 23 last night, along with Siesta Key Gold Rum (distilled nearby in Sarasota, FLorida). The Siesta Key was, like their white rum, very good, but the Zacapa was unbelievable. i will certainly pick up a Zacapa XO next trip to the liquor store.
