Are People Really Afraid to Cut Their Own Hair?

Thread Starter
Like most men, I had been apprehensive about cutting my own hair for fear of making a mistake. I tried it a couple of times with a traditional trimmers and it looked terrible. I have finally found a product that works for home haircutting, and I believe in it so much that I now do all of the social media for it. I will not pitch it here because it is against forum rules, but I was curious to know some of the reasons why people would be hesitant to buy a product that lets you cut your own hair other than the fact that people are worried about messing it up. Maybe that is reason enough, but come on, as men, most of us can just shave it down. What say you, forum?

Personally, I use one of these:

In my opinion a nice haircut isn't achieved with a pair of clippers. That's a military buzzcut that takes no thought process or style sense to accomplish.

I also didn't circumcise myself, if you're curious.

I've been doing my own for a few years now. I usually just do an 8 on the top, then 4->3->2 on the sides. It ends up looking all right, nothing special. I just like that I can keep it consistently short.

some cuts require more than just a clipper.

I was never impressed with haircuts I used to get (probably because I cheaped out at the $15 place), but I've been cutting my hair myself for the last 3 years. Sometimes it comes out meh and sometimes it looks meh, but the extra $15 a month is very nice.

Social media, like creating accounts on style sites with the product as your username?

In the off-chance that I'm wrong here, I have cut my own hair, but the best I've done was "surprisingly not bad", and it didn't really save any time, so now I get it cut professionally.

I've been doing the buzzcut thing for a couple years now. Tried different lengths (1.5, 2, 3, 4 up to a 5). Trying to find a pic with a #8. I wonder what that would look like. Is it stubble or hair when you cut with an 8?

A little hard to see in this picture but I cut this about a week ago.

The hair is still fairly long with the 8, about 1.25" or so.
