Assistant Buyer Job Listing; tailored clothing (approved by administrators)

With permission from the moderators, I'm posting a job listing for a assistant buyer position in men's tailored clothing. The position is at a luxury retailer in New York City; you'd be working for a friend of mine, who is the buyer. I thought I'd post it here to hopefully attract a candidate who has an interest in tailored clothing. The job description is listed below, please reply to me by PM if you are interested. Please note the requirements and keep in mind that this job is entry level.

Detailed info:

Job Duties
-This position supports the Buyer while providing information/communications to vendors, stores and management teams. Assist the buying team in the management of gross margin through sales, markdowns, return to vendors, and markups. Responsible for managing promotional aspects such as magazine samples, sales associate incentives, trunk shows, PA's and other in store events.
-Analyze merchandising screens and implications: flash reporting, sell through and basic analysis.
-Assists the Buyer in completing the rolling forecast learning its usage and application within each component: sales, markdowns, open-to-buy.
-Monitor receipt flow, operations and store issues.
-Responsible for purchase order entry, and associated delivery tracking and journal reconciliation.
-Strategic planning of all events and advertising
-Develop effective vendor relationships
-Gain awareness of the competition through regular competitive shopping.

Job Requirements
-Bachelor's degree from a four-year college/university
-Retail background is helpful, particularity in menswear
-Must have advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. A strong quantitative background is necessary.
-Must be available to interview and start immediately (November 2009)

this part also struck me as weird. I'm nearly certain that the person you seek won't have a strong "quantitative" background the way most people use that term. indeed, that would be someone with a stats background or something like that and whose spends a good portion of their whole day crunching #'s. I think you're probably looking at someone who could manage their way through B school fine, which is basically "proficiency with Excel and intelligent"

I'd be very happy to do this if I actually lived in the US, never mind NYC. A shame

You forgot to include that the ideal candidate should have proficiency in fetching coffee, picking up dry cleaning and shining shoes.

Sounds like it's just phonework and data entry. How many trips to Milan each year? What's the discount at that level? Do Buyers wear nice clothes all the time?

Sounds like a great position. If I lived in NYC or could relocate there, I'd apply.
