Fixing a dress-like t-shirt

Thread Starter
I recently bought a nice used t-shirt on ebay. When it arrived, it was clear that the shirt had been stretched quite a bit at the bottom. The result is that while the top 2/3 of the shirt fits me well, the bottom part "fans out", making it look like a dress! (I could put up a picture if I am not communicating this properly).

My question is, can a tailor fix this problem so that the shirt will hang straight down? By taking it in a bit on each side maybe? Or is it a lost cause?

for god's sake man, it's a t-shirt.

If washing it doesn't tighten it up, I can't imagine it'd be worth the tailoring expense. (And not having ever heard of tailoring t-shirts, I don't know whether it's possible...)

Tailoring a tshirt should be fairly trivial so long as your tailor knows knits. Might cost as much as the tshirt, but if it's important to you, it's not that much.

Better to take it to a dressmaker. They understand knits better.
