long live the killer!

Live At The Star Club is as they say, a crime scene. Some of his covers of the Little Richard songs don't quite have the same maniacal scream of Little Richard, but he makes up for it by sheer force of energy.

As the title indicates, this is a particularly wild version of Great Balls of Fire. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRlfr...eature=related

I highly recommend Nick Tosches' book Country which has truly surreal chapter devoted to Jerry Lee. Tosches also penned what may be the definitive bio of the Killer, Hellfire. I've not read it, but 'Nitro' Nick T. does not often disappoint...

"His first book of note, Hellfire (1982), was a biography of Jerry Lee Lewis steeped in William Faulkner, the Old Testament, and a singular dark and poetic style born of the ancient classics and of the street. Hellfire was hailed as "quite simply the best rock & roll biography ever written" (Rolling Stone),"a work of art" (The Boston Globe), "brilliant" (The New Statesman), "disturbing and important" (The Toronto Sun), and "a testament to the power of Tosches's writing" (The Arizona Republic). Greil Marcus wrote that, 'sooner or later, Hellfire will be recognized as an American classic.'"

Love Jerry Lee, unfortunately had the pleasure of seeing him perform in 2005 which wasnt so great. As expected at his age, the songs were very slow tempo and lackluster. I suppose there's always a cool factor to seeing a legend like him, but Jerry Lee along with Chuck Berry should probably stop playing if they can't do their own songs any justice. There's a young guy playing the last few years named Lance Lipinsky that does a great Jerry Lee tribute act, not a fan of tribute acts but Lance's is pretty damn great

It appears Little Richard can still rock it judging by some of his recent things.

Pretty good article about JLL in the November issue of GQ. I heard that he performed at one of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame concerts a couple of weeks ago, but the review was, let us say, "diplomatic"; no doubt out of respect for what he once was and the fact that at 74 years old he's still out there kicking over piano benches.

JLL can rock, but the dude creeps me out. So does Little Richard.

JLL sounds and plays so much better than even a few years ago. Anyone know what happened? Was he ill? Either way, this probably doesn't sound like the JLL you saw in concert GetSmart. Listen to this version of "Don't Put No Headstone On My Grave" from earlier this year. Stunning!

So does Little Richard.

Chuck Berry trumps them both, in the rock department.
