In a word, yes. But he also happens to be annoyingly correct a lot of the time. You’ll get used to it.

Cool bro, I'll be sure to catch you at the next olympics.

If only I had the genetics for it. Doesn't mean I shouldn't train to my potential, and push myself to the limit.

I believe the majority of that weight gain was replacing thigh and rear fat with muscle. I can now flex the muscles in my legs and glutes and it all hardens up, when in the past there was nothing to flex. I was totally skinny-fat - small dimensions but not boney rail thin. Everything is more solid now and I have such a long way to go, it's daunting.

I am just hoping that I can milk newbie gains for a lot longer. I am hoping newbie gains are more a function of how low did you start, not strictly how long have you been lifting. After 6 months and gaining ~22 lbs, I'm 140 now.

I can second that. I put on ~20lbs of newbie gains between January and July, almost completely muscle and mostly upper body. My experience in terms of clothing fit was pretty similar.

You guys might be right... all I know is that I've gained 20 lbs, and I do not look any fatter... in fact my abs have hardened up and any hint of a protrusion at my gut is gone. If gaining fat to fill in space between muscle is how the body works, then I may have added fat rather than pure muscle... but I went from being thin and weak to being fairly cut, with defined abs and pecs, and the upside-down heart on the back of my calves, and so on.
