G33ks, New Netbooks Expected?

I'm planning to pick one up soon. Do you think a new generation is due out for the holiday season? I'm leaning ASUS. Any links, reviews, etc?

I know at least one brand is coming out with a tablet version in the near future (if you care).

I have a few of the HP netbooks at work that were free with Verizon FiOS installs at a few remote branches.... not too shabby but I don't have much in the realm of netbooks to compare it against.

Are there particular features you are looking for?

My experience with Asus has been pretty good. I got a 1000H (10.1" with XP, running 7 now with aero with no problems). I definitely prefer it over the Dell and Acer I have used, the trackpad/buttons didn't seem as well thought out on those. The Acer Aspire has a weird setup with the left button to the left of the trackpad and the right on the right (as opposed to under). Asus has pretty good customer service too (well, a fantastic policy at least, I wasn't forced to register and all they required was a receipt showing the date purchased, to prove it was still under warranty). All in all, I think i'd probably get one of the new netbook tablets with Windows 7, not aware of if/when any are available yet, but they seem pretty neat. Edit: Woah, Asus dropped the touchscreen T91 long ago, was not aware. Edit:Edit: Please dun buy that one, wait for the Windows 7 version with multitouch.

Don't want to go under a 10" screen, but looking for light, thin, good battery life, reasonable size HDD and would prefer 2 gig of RAM after everything I've read.

What are the benefits of a tablet?

If you add in windows 7 (not starter) and another stick of ram (totaling 2gb), its $499 before shipping ($29.95) and taxes if apllicable in your state.

Possibly. There are a few books coming out with the Ion chipset, which is worth waiting for, but there really won't be any upgrades in processors or other components until spring. Its worth waiting for the holiday sales alone. Black friday, cyber monday, and christmas should all have good deals given the relatively dismal sales in the 3rd quarter.

Unbreakable, thanks. Nice stuff, if just a tad heavy vs. ASUS. Nice though.

Rambo, that's my idea. I'm waiting for TG weekend and seeing what sale I can get on the NetWebz.

Wise. By then, everything will be pre-loaded with Windoze 7 and the only thing you may have to do will be add ram. Keep an eye on Engadget or Gizmodo for news.

Thanks, was not aware of those sites. I've been pricing off newegg.com.

Just remember, light/thin can be impacted by battery life (my 1000HA is tiny, but chubby because of the 6-cell) and you can install RAM yourself in the majority of cases (like with Asus)

I wasn't sure about that with a netbook. Just slip open a hatch and stick in another/different stick, like a notebook?

For deals you should check out Slickdeals.net and fatwallet.com Memory install is usually opening a cover or prying up the keyboard. Very easy.

I assume you're talking about RAM. It's harder with some, but most make it very easy - takes about 60 seconds to change it in my ASUS. I believe there are some other makers that made it hard/impossible.

Windows 7 has some pretty slick improvements for tablets. The handwriting recognition is worlds better than XP Tablet Edition. If you would do a lot of photoshop-type work, a tablet is nice. If you'll be typing a lot, it's unnecessary.

Does anyone know if you're getting MS Office, or at least Word and Excel, including with a Win 7 install, on these netbooks?
