Sectionals

Thread Starter
Growing up every sectional I saw was cheap and horribly ugly so I've had a fairly long standing aversion to them. However, a sectional would work perfectly with the floorplan of our living room in our new house. So, would a dark brown leather sectional which is well crafted be a furniture atrocity, or are sectionals accepted pieces of decent furniture?

I hope to find something like this: http://remodelista.com/posts/furnitu...w-hilton-couch Then there is also: http://remodelista.com/posts/high-low-sectional-sofa Sleeker Knoll-type sofas look nice but I can't imagine lounging in them.

I love quality, modern sectionals and modular furniture in general. Here is my sectional sofa, a vintage design from B&B Italia:

It has been fun to configure the set in a ton of different ways (the back pieces are removable, and there also are a couple of optional armrests).

^^Awesome. Is that your place too? The problem with many sectionals is that you need a lot of space. That sofa would take up my living AND dining room.

Yes, that is my living room. The sofa definitely dominates the space (but in a good way, I think).

In our last house, which was quite a bit smaller, we used another vintage sectional, the "Chadwick" sofa by Herman Miller, like this (but a different color):

However, we had only a few pieces of it, so the sofa was rather compact. BTW, if this design is of interest to the OP (I think it looks great, and it is quite comfy), it can usually be found for a relatively low price.

Another one of my favorite sectional designs is the Togo, produced by Ligne Roset:

This also is a vintage design but is still in production. The Togo is actually what I was planning to buy for my living room before stumbling across the B&B Italia set.

This is fantastic, very much like what I've been looking for.

Any idea on the price, I searched all the retailers the website listed and none have a published price.

Never a good sign.

De La Espada is definitely pricey stuff -- up there with all the most expensive well-known manufacturers of modern furniture.

The pics of sectionals in this thread are really nice. I've never had one, but I've seen very nice ones in homes of friends.

Yeah, I gave up. I'm guessing $10k-$20k or so.

Check out the I just bought a thread. Markfromplano just bought a sectional that was half decent looking. The ones in this thread are god awful. Spertia's looks like a sofa molded out of a bag of marshmallows.

^I agree, although interesting, I don't really like the stuff posted. I am more partial to stuff from the big companies like Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel.
