Waste of time how?

+1. OP, you really just need to get to a gym and start targeting muscle groups with resistance and low reps (less than 15). You can sort of accomplish that at home with dumbells, but it's harder.
Aesthetically, trapezius, biceps, and pecs are the most 'first-impression' muscles that make you look strong.

Im gonna go againts the experts and say that pushups and situps are not a waste of time for beginners. There are many different kinds of pushups and situps, wide spaced PUs, pike PUs, military, one handed etc, and many different sit-ups like crunches, wide legged, cross legged, etc; then throw in all the leg raises, scissor kicks, and add some yoga moves that involve abs and you've got plenty to work with.

If you get to the point of doing 100 pushups or situps then yes doing more and more would be a waste unless you start adding resistance. But if you would just like to maintain it still wouldn't be a waste of time.

I never said doing pushups and situps were a waste of time for a beginner.

but the OP said this:

So for HIM it won't be building any muscle since he can do it with ease. For someone who can only do a few pushups or situps, obviously they will find more benefit and results.

For chest, I do as much push-ups as I can.. Usually around 3 sets of 50.

and for abs, I do the ABS100 workout from a P90X video. 10 sets of 10 reps and my abs are good..

You should check it out, P90X..

p90x is one of those workout infomercials that actually does work, because it's hard work.
