Push-ups and Sit-ups

Search didn't seem to turn up much for something this basic. If there's already a similar thread, my goof.

I weight 145 pounds max and am 6' tall, so I'm very skinny. I ate over 3 fast food hamburgers and drank beer and consumed nothing else than that for 2 straight months this summer and didn't gain a single pound while also doing absolutely no exercise. I'm actually fairly strong but that wouldn't be apparent unless you asked me to hold your heavy shit for you. Now, I can do about 100 pushups at once and then several more times throughout the day but I'm not really that defined/toned whatever. It seems like having almost no body fat would make it very easy for me to get toned without busting my ass at the gym (not being lazy, just want to avoid the gym at my university at all costs... i could tell a couple funny/fucked-up stories about that place if you'd like).

Anyway, what kind of push-up/sit-up work would it take to get toned? Iggy Pop was skinny as hell and also ripped as all fuck. I can't imagine that strung-out motherfucker was hitting the gym, though I could be mistaken. Probably just on-stage exertion?

So, I'm not so much interested in strength building as I am in looking good. Should push-ups and sit-ups be enough to accomplish this or is a lot of it dietary etc? I obviously don't know anything at all about this kind of thing.

Do bicycle sit-ups, and PROPER push ups for the best results. Buy two dumb-bells and put them parallel like this I I and do your push-ups like that in your room, you'll have further range and makes it easier on your wrists and don't let your ass raise up or slump down.

Tip* eating fast food crap is terrible and it's just going into your stomach and being shit out if your saying it's not making you fat, I too have extreme high metabolism probably because i'm half asian and i've found eating 6 portioned meals a day allows me to gain muscle/weight while not getting fat ( work-out/ eat good foods )

iggy was shredded because he probably hardly ate, or had a high metabolism. If you can't see your abs then you are sure as hell not going to get there by doing situps, that means there is a layer of fat covering them. Even if you eat like shit and stay skinny your insides are paying for it. if you want to be toned and skinny as hell then clean your diet up and cardio with some circuit training with bodyweight exercises. I dont think girls will think you are anymore attractive been skinny as hell and cut up than if you were bigger, stronger, and less cut up.

I don't eat like that anymore. I eat whatever is available at the dining hall on a given night which is typically a lot of vegan/healthy entrees. I can see my abs for sure but not really unless I flex 'em. In certain light I look totally ripped but only in that certain light...

What sort of foods are good for this sort of things?

Thanks, by the way, I appreciate the helpful answers.

p.s. holy shit! merely from not eating? his pecs are fairly pronounced...

His chest is actually really small. Take adderall or an ECA stack and quit eating. I know a kid who looks just like that. He just has a fucking ridiculous metabolism. Pushups and situps will at least maintain a little bit of tone in your deteriorating body.

Iggy was on a steady diet of uppers from ~1969-75. I recommend dexedrine and/or crystal meth.

I mean, he's honestly kind of gross looking I was just using him to demonstrate someone who is cut but not strong looking or big. I'm not even interested in being skinny as hell I would just like to be toned to somewhat muscular but don't really care much about strength. Anyway, I walk and/or bike at least 2 miles a day being a university student on a large campus. If you were wondering.

For quite a while now I've heard/read situps are pretty much a waste of time. Any thoughts on this? Would getting an ab wheel or finding other ab workouts be better than doing situps?

Re Iggy, a little know fact: singing is a great ab workout.

there's probably 100 different types of pushups and 100 different types of situps and then probably 1000 different body weight-type exercises.

Iggy Pop is a freak of nature...he always sweaty which makes him look more cut like putting baby oil all over your skinny body should make you look more cut.

So do heroin and put baby oil all over yourself.

I do push ups and various types of sit ups three times a week. I've heard it's not good as an exercise regimen (it's the only exercise I do, other than walking or playing guitar), but I do it anyway for what I believe to be aesthetic benefits.

I'd substitute the situps with burpees or mountainclimbers, but that's just me and I usually don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

mt climbers are awesome. They work the same muscles as military pushups plus the abs and legs.

You failed to mention how old you are, because after a certain age, the crap you are eating will start to deposit itself as fat.
