I don't quite understand where this craze for Chuck Norris came from? Was it TV? A movie? A rerun of Walker Texas Ranger? He's everywhere these days. Any insights?

Although, I did hear an awesome Norris fact that SF should adopt as its motto:

Along with his black belt, Chuck Norris often chooses to wear brown shoes. No one has DARED call him on it. Ever.

It's really old. It might have been funny a few months ago. I remember Conan parodied Norris a couple years ago in some Late Night segments.

That's right - Conan had the "Walker: Texas Ranger Lever". Whenever he pulled the lever, he got a clip from the show.

It's just one of those memes that travels around the Internet until everyone on Earth is quoting from it - usually starting through a Photoshop competition, Flash animation or forum thread from Something Awful, Slashdot, Newgrounds, Fark or one of those sites, and then it spreads.

The "Chuck Norris facts" actually started off as "Vin Diesel facts". Others you might have seen would be Lee Hotti, All Your Base, David Hasselhoff, the Star Wars Kid, that Badger song, and so on.

Also, Snakes on a Plane.

I'm glad somebody finally asked about this. I noticed that the Chuck references would crop up in some threads, usually posted by a certain member, and I never understood it. Not being a Chick Norris fan at all, I find it a bit tiresome, but have always just ignored it.

Only Chuck Norris can find something tiresome and ignore it at the same time.

Ignore by not responding. Unlike what I am doing now.

It just goes on and on and on. Like pain from Chuck Norris' spinning double backfist to the mind.

Original source for Chuck Norris Facts (also Vin Diesel facts).

There was a fairly amusing article online somewhere recently interviewing the guy who created those generators, and his experiences with actually meeting Chuck Norris (who apparently is fine with the whole thing and finds it amusing.)

You want it to be dead. You don't want to keep reading. But Chuck Norris makes you.
