U.S. Royalty

My tastes are usually more drawn to harder/experimental music but I still love good melodic guitar pop. Usually that means going to the Beach Boys or my British Invasion boxsets but my friends U.S. Royalty do it perfectly - and they're still making music in 2009. They are D.C.'s own and unsigned as of yet but they have some unimpeachable credentials having played South By Southwest, just returned from CMJ and a series of tours across the states. They are also amongst the most stylish motherfuckers I know. Every Summer (Directed by Music Vid luminary Jake Davis) Rats(directed by good friend and DC local Ryan Wakeman)

Dude, not to be an asshat here, but you constantly harp on about how whatever Pitchfork-approved indie rock bands suck balls, and then you post this...? No h8, I've just been on the receiving end of your generalizations and "my taste in music is God's gift to the world"-isms. It's cool I remember hating everyone who didn't agree with me about Joanna Newsom when she was still fresh off the SF hippie bandwagon. I kind of dig the song. I think Girls does the same thing 100x better, it's just the irony of your thread is funny. But you probably wouldn't like Girls (they received high acclaim from various media critical outlets, including Pfork).

Come on Brian that shit is joking. "Post your five favorite bands and I will mock you" I happen to love Radiohead, The Flaming Lips and a ton of other "pitchfork hype bands" Hell even sunn o))) got an 8/10 from pitchfork. Just because I like some indie pop doesn't mean I cant tease people for adhering too rigidly to a tastemaker.

My post was mostly a joke, too, more like a love tap than an actual jab. I actually gave you a reply, when generally speaking "Hey I like this band, check them out" threads historically stay in the 0-digit reply range. No hate, dude. Just when I saw that bassist with the awesomely primped overgrown hipster locks and the trademark guy-who-has-no-business-growing-a-beard-but-did-anyway I couldn't help but give you a hard time. The lyrics, while not bad, are pretty pre-fab sounding as well - out of character for you is all. Seriously though, do you like Girls? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux_bMx26IR8

I do now.

And say what you will about the band's style, it fucking works for them. Full disclosure:This is really just shameless self-promotion as I am sharing a bill with U.S. Royalty tonight and have performed with them before.... Thanks for the the bump.

No shameless self-promotion is complete without plugging your own myspace music page. Do you have one? Didn't know you were making music.

I thought this thread was going to be about something else.

I remember about maybe 20 years ago or so I was in England, or maybe Italy, and I read something in an English paper that said something along the lines of "Only a culture as crass as America would ever consider the Kennedy's royalty". I laughed out loud, before it was fashionable, or there was an abbreviated way to do so.

But back to shameless promotion or whatever is going on here.

I have to think I AM the target audience for these dudes (and The 59 Sound), and I can't really get down with either.

Big congrats to Magician, though, on doing something different, doing it well, and getting good gigs.

U.S. Royalty does tend to be the offspring of tiresome groups such as Puritans or businesssmen.

I've seen them play live, I think they can grow on me.

Magic and hypnosis, I just gig with bands. Desperately trying to get a professional site up, but no web presence as of yet.
