If you were to start your wardrobe from scratch and you can have 10 items in there, what would they be? Mine would be:

1 - Dry denim indigo slim jean
2 - white T shirt
3 - White shirt
4 - Sweatshirt
5 - Baseball style jacket
6 - Pea coat
7 - washed canvas pant
8 - Button up T shirt (Long sleeve)
9 - Plaid shirt
10 - Work wear blazer

I'm pretty sure we've done this before, but:

1 & 2: Two pairs of dry denim indigo straightlegs or slight boot cuts, at least 13 ounces. Durable and good fit are my main criteria.
3 - Zip up fleece hoodie (probably dark grey, but wine or another off primary color might tempt me) - needs to be durable and versatile
4 and 5 - Well fitted 50/50's tee shirt - cream, and one in a colour complementary to my hoodie color - orange, or maybe turquoise.
6 - A really cool belt, probably dark brown.
7 - Military inspired canvas jacket, brown or dark olive.
8 - Comfortable and classic sneakers - Adidas Italias, maybe? Or Chucks?
9 - Snap button military or western style shirt, fitted.
10 - Wedding band (or else my wife would kill me.)

Yep, I'm a simple man with simple tastes.

For military style I prefer a slightly more formal dress shape, less M65 style. Patch pockets with stand collar and throat tab, single vent. Sounds formal but in a work wear fabric instead.

The shirt I will pass on as prefer more button front styles, UK doesn't have much going for snap fronts.

My 10 essential "streetwear" items:

1. A pair of slim dry jeans
2. A pair of relaxed 501style dry jeans
3. Ben Sherman s/s buttondown, preferably one 'made in UK' which has the proper fit/styling that sold in US ones don't
4. Fred Perry polo (again made in UK ideal)
5. Classic slim trainer (Adidas Japan, Italia, etc)
6. A pair of Converse allstars
7. A nice track jacket/zip up
8. A cool denim jacket (Levis type I or II, Nudie conny, ALD etc)
9. Good brown belt
10. A cool tshirt (I'm partial to my Lonsdales)

My 10 for the street:

1) Slim straight dry jeans
2) Regular straight jeans, dry or tastefully washed
3) Basic leather sneakers (adidas Superstar)
4) Hi-top canvas sneakers (Chuck Taylor)
5) Light coloured crew neck basic slim tee, 100% cotton (very partial to this)
6) Graphic tee, intelligent design please
7) White dress shirt
8) Striped, more casual shirt
9) Dark coloured hoodie or cardigan
10) Black leather belt, a simple one would do

Over here i don't really need warm clothing, hence the lack of blazer or coat.

Well, if price wasn't a consideration (which it obviously is):

Military style jacket - Cloak, F/W 2004-2005. Shorter (just hits the hip) style. Articulated shoulders and really interesting

Snap button military shirt - my favorite is a Jil Sander one from about F/W 1997-1998, but some of the more subdued DSquared ones are really good. I have one from F/W 2003-2004 which is terrific except that it is a bit too long for my tastes. Olive, two front patch pockets. Burnished silver/pewter snaps. Triple snapped cuffs. Large collar.

oooh, do you have any good pictures of the Cloak jacket? I'd like to see if I could get a reproduction made.. it sounds interesting.

Think Yoox would be good for those military shirts?

I will see if I can find a pic of the jacket on firstview. And Yoox would probably be good for the shirts. I personally picked mine up at Maxfield Bleu,

Have you seen the one from this season, tried it on, fits like it was made for me (I like the new cloak sizing, just slightly larger making the smalls look terrific on me

) Cloak has upped the quality in some areas (buttons, construction-now mostly made in Italy or so I've heard...) but still have the same Quality control issues as before. I just don't think I'm ready to pay something like $900 for a canvas military jacket, even if it's a cloak one
