I think you are spot on with your initial assessment. They had horrible buttons for sure! I have liked their shirts a lot, esp for the price! Their fabric selection is a lot larger now, and my couple of shirts have help up well with commercial laundry washes. MOP buttons are on my next order, so its nice that they have listened and now offer a huge selection of buttons also! A couple of others have posted recent favorable reviews also. The same day I made my earlier review here in this thread, I received a feedback survey from ModernTailor along with a $10 off gift code for a future service. Coincidence or perhaps they survey the scene here? Either way, it was a pleasant surprise and they certainly asked all the right questions. With the $10 credit, I was happy to give them another go and I'm glad they've greatly expanded the fabrics and customizations, esp the buttons. If it weren't for their customer service I probably wouldn't have bothered with another order. Bravo for them. Order should be arriving any day now so I'll post another assessment and pics.

Moderntailor tends to add and deplete fabrics fairly quickly. That being said I found the swatch book useful to determine the average quality at their many pricepoints if not to choose an indiviual fabric itself.

They have some fabrics on sale for very nice prices - placing an order right now. I own the pink stiped cotton/linen, the orange heringbone and one of the blue stiped ones (P30) and recommend them all. The linen first, the blue stipe next and the orange herringbone was just a little shiny but seems nice (too new to comment on durability).

fwi - The swatch book costs $25 - if ordered with a shirt. It is an "add on" at the end of the order process.
And they do have quite a few fabrics/colors on sale. That was enough for me to order a shirt... with my $5 off it came to $36... including shipping from China.
