I live around NYC and I shop at fairway. They have a great coffee selection and I usually buy Indonesian Sulawesi. I like stong coffee and that does the trick, and at 7.99 a pound you can't beat the price.

I buy online from Counterculture Coffee. I've bought Intelligentsia and La Colombe a few times in the past but Counterculture is way better IMO. Note that I only buy Espresso blends.

Riverrun,

I'll be in Roma in a couple weeks. The ONLY place I have to go there is Cafe Sankt Eustachio. No matter where I eat dinner, I walk down toward the Pantheon every night for a Gran Espresso. Yeah, it keeps me awake later than I like...but it's heaven. And it's the best reason to go to Rome.

i'm a fan of the TJ's new guinea peaberry. They keep their coffee's remarkably fresh, considering the way it looks on the shelf.

my usual choice is the Whole Foods Blend at . . . Whole Foods. i usually come in on Sundays to pick up a few things and the beans are always freshly roasted and still warm. i go to the mega huge headquarters location in downtown Austin, so i'm not sure if every WF roasts their beans in house. i also discovered a newly opened local roaster literally around the corner from my apartment in east Austin called Owl Tree Roasting. you would totally miss it if you weren't looking for it, and the only reason why i found it was because i was takin the pup on a walk and was like, "why does that old closed down gas station smell like coffee?" --- anyway, they do the fair trade/artisan/socially conscious thing and they also supply a lot of the local coffee houses. i think you can order the stuff online http://www.owltreeroasting.com/
