seriously though, i think it has its roots in Jungian psychology, although it strikes me as a little less metaphorical and poetic than using archetypes.

I agree. Archetypes are much more poetic. Using the cast of South Park as archetypes, who would you be?

This may yield more useful and accurate analysis.
