Background: Dad - thining hair in 30's, salt and peper about the same. for 65 still has a pretty decent amount of hair, but is clearly losing the battle. mom's dad - grey by like 16, bald by 19 - mom's brother, is about 55 or so and has pretty decent hair (not too dissimilar to mine) Me - starting to get noticeably Grey, but still lots of thick hair - almost 30 all the sudden, about 3 weeks ago, I noticed that I was starting to shed a larger amount of hair than usual. Like, if I would shower, I would get maybe 2-3 strands of hair. Now I am getting 10-15 per shower. Not clumps or anything, just loose strands. I wear my hair on the shorter side of medium. This is pretty abnormal for me, but all the hairdressers I go to say its normal for this time of year. Its really starting to freak me out. the hair looks perfectly healthy. Everyone says they cant see any difference, but its one of those psychological things where I think I can telll a difference. so. Is this normal for this time of year or is it oh shit, I am losing my hair time. I have a decent to poor diet. need to lose some lbs. Been under a lot of stress lately. Oddly, this started at the same time I started taking a mild anti depressant, however I Stopped the pills 2-3 weeks ago and this is still happening.

Don't let sheds freak you out. Look at the hairs that are being shed and see if they are losing diameter. That will tell you if your hair is coming or going. If your scalp itches in any one spot, look at the shed hairs. A poor diet does not help. I lost a lot of hair when I was slightly overweight and drank a lot of soda. It causes lots of inflammation that can greatly affect your hair.

does it seem reasonable that this time of year would lead to shedding? It sort of coincided with the weather changing for the worst. I would say my diet is on the decent side of decent-poor. I over eat, I know that much, but what I do eat is not unhealthy per-se. Losing diameter is something I had not heard or thought about, I will check, but by all recolections, they seem to be a normal size.

It could just be seasonal hair loss. Every autumn the same thing happens to me, for like the past decade.

I've lucked out. My dad was top bald by 24. My mother's father was thinning in high school and was top bald at 21. I'm 37 and I just have some minor receding at the sides of my widow's peak, and my peak is where it has been all along. My little brother on the other hand got screwballed. He has that thing where he has an island widows peak, with baldness behind it for 3 inches. I on the other hand have a shitload of grey, and I have had it since I was late 20s. I have been buzzing my hair since I was 12.

If you know you're gonna be fucked with baldness soon, maybe you should just fast-track it with steroids and grow some big full-body cattle muscle in the process. Chicks like guys with enlarged facial muscles.

I don't see what the big deal is if you're thinning, just go to Thailand or somewhere and get a hair transplant. I think there is evidence that rogaine works somewhat for all areas of the head except the temples. Wrinkles and creases in facial skin is much more of concern in my opinion, there's really nothing you can do about that. Stress and diet probably play a very small role in the hair loss, if at all.

I dunno, if you're not single, isn't 30 about the time when you need to stop worrying about your cosmetic facial appearance? I've always thought that some women but especially men who are still concerned about their appearance after 35 to be the surest sign of infidelity.

other than the stress and diet sentence, this is a noticeably terrible post. i almost feel as if you need some kind of reward or trophy to commemorate just how terrible it is.

I shed from time to time. I think it may have something to do with living with heaters on all the time now that it's winter/gross season again. My scalp gets dried out.

If it persists for 6-8 weeks then get propecia. Don't worry about grey hair. I think it looks great. The younger the better. I'm 25 and wish I was starting to grey now.

Supposedly, slightly increased shedding is common in the fall. That said, since your family history gives you reason for concern and shedding is believed to happen periodically in many cases of male-pattern baldness, you should have a dermatologist closely examine your scalp for early signs of hair loss and any associated conditions (typically involving itching). The company website has a good article on the subject, by the way.

i'm thinning. not gonna take drugs for it but i am using nioxin shampoo now. 2 weeks into it and i'm not having as much come out during showers. not a failsafe, but at least it's something.

Im not expericing any thinning/shedding yet, but I am switching to Nioxin anyway because of family history. I recently buzzed off all my hair because my old shampoo was really damaging it =/
