any suggestions for a couple of good placesto eat in Ottawa?
Wellington Gastro Pub and Junipers Kitchen and Wine bar are both places I've tried that are pretty decent. Are you looking for a particular cuisine/price point/area? I've just recently moved to Ottawa so there's lots I have yet to try.

www.juniperdining.ca

Places I haven't been yet but have heard are good and are on my list.

http://www.ceylonta.com/ <- sri lankan
http://www.agaveottawa.ca/hws/agave/index.html Tex-mex
http://www.absinthecafe.ca/ <- this might be of interest if only for the full-bore Absinthe which is illegal in the US and many other countries.

Others that might interest you

http://www.sweetgrassbistro.ca/ <- aboriginal influence on the food

GT, probably been 20 years since I was in Ottawa, but I remember the city next door, Hull Quebec, was a major party and had some pretty good Lebanese places. It's just across a bridge, and you're in Quebec, so not a long drive.

Anything special you have in mind? I haven't lived there in 15 years but still know a lot of people in the restaurant world.

Off the top of my head...Some great Chinese and Vietnamese places on Somerset. Good pub food at The Manx on Elgin. Some nice places in the Market like Domus or Vineyards.

Was here a couple of summers ago, and there's a place called D'arcy McGee's (I believe it may have been on Sparks Street) that was decent, if not outstanding, pub fare. There seem to have been a lot of neat little places in the Byward Market, but not sure what you're looking for.

thanks, I am taking a couple of my regional managers there for a meeting (long story how the fuck we ended up in Ottawa) and I need at least one place for a meal. I'd love Sri Lankan, but I am guessing that we end up with pub food or something like that as being the compremise - one guy hates asian food and only likes arab food, one guy eats asian food all the time, so we will have to find something that we can comprimise on.

Not sure if it is a compromise but why not try some french canadian fare while in Ottawa. Bistro 115 in the Market is great. Lots of good meat dishes and local beers too.

Aaaagh, it seems that Bistro 115 closed up shop a year ago...the good news is that the new place in the same location is getting good reviews from some friends of mine. It also features Canadian food with a leaning towards charcuterie: http://murraystreet.ca/Menus/DinnerM...7/Default.aspx

Some good replies -- I'd also add Al's Steak House on Elgin Street (http://www.alssteakhouse.ca/)...in fact, Elgin in general might be worth exploring.

Also, Prime 360 Steakhouse on Lyon Street (west downtown) is good. Can you tell I like steak?

cool, set up a reservation already. 7:30 hockey game, 9:30 reservation. that may be ambitious, but hopefully it will work.
