It's been brought up time and time again but the spam on this forum is ridiculous.

I love this forum. I spend more time on here than I should. Way more time. However I don't understand why measures aren't taken to reduce the spam. Well, I'm sure there are some and there is a lot that doesn't make it through whatever steps are in place but from my perspective as an end user it appears that this site treats the symptoms rather than the disease in that spam has to be reported before it is "handled" and the offenders removed.

I've been on other sites before where the first post is submitted to the moderators for approval and then if allowed the poster given full access to post without this limitation. Perhaps this would end up as more workload for the mods but I don't see it being much different from them handling reported posts.

It's because I've been lazy about updating the forum software and implementing extra measures against the spam. The moderated first post thing is an idea, but it requires there to be a moderator available to check posts at all times. This would mean enlisting more moderators to ensure that someone with good judgment is always around. I'm sure there are plenty of good candidates, but I have trust issues about giving control to people I don't know pretty well, and I have come to believe that my trust issues are one of the reasons that people seem to mostly like the moderation here. Less cooks, better broth, etc. However, I do understand that the spam is a problem, and I'll try to devote some time soon to solving it. It would be nice if I could figure out a way to not get 244 spam report emails when I get home from taking a day off the internet. (yes, 244.)

Just change it so people can't post a link for their first 25 posts or so. That will work wonders.

The Foofed thread was good to begin with, but it has reached the need for pinning IMO.

Why was likeitaloud banned? Just curious.

Man, I was hoping for updates about his 19th birthday "Suits vs. Skins" party at that club.

Does anyone use the WTB forum? I just made fun of someone's thread not realizing it was a separate forum - I thought it was on the FS subforum. Do any sellers actually use this to find buyers?

I suppose it's a useful place to dump all the WTB posts without cluttering up the other fora, but it's sort of a sad graveyard in there

People have mentioned getting things through the WTB, but most of the sales are done via PM apparently.

Thanks for taking the time to address my comments/suggestion j.

I understand what you're saying about not wanting to overmoderate the forum. I agree that the mods currently do a pretty good job. However, no harm in someone having to wait a few hours to have their post get through. I don't think a fashion emergency quite constitutes a life and death situation and anyone that can't tolerate this period of time isn't likely to become a long-term member of this community. Of course, I don't know how it works in terms of sheer numbers generating ad revenue for you and if this would affect it.

Anyway, here's to hoping for some kind of solution. In the mean time, I'll continue to report those posts I see.

I get them installments. No idea why, but gmail (where all my email is forwarded to) seems to split up the reported posts using some logic opaque to me.

BTW, please don't post in spam threads. There have been a few times when I've nearly spamminated a legit member because the post was right under the spam post, and I was in a hurry. Just report the thing.

I've had lots of successes with the WTB forum, both in selling and buying.

I love the WTB forum, if only for the fact that it found me the exact fit and color of tiger fleece hoodie I was looking for (super slim medium, olive), one that I wasn't even sure existed, and even if it did, expected to have no more than a 1% chance of ever encountering. So yeah, it works.

Have I drank too much tonight, or is the Foof thread squirreled?
