So... HSV-1. Who has it?

Evidently I do now, though I've never had an outbreak. Supposedly it's really common. So. Fess up!

At first I thought you were talking about swine flu, then I remembered that it's H1N1. So herpes simplex virus 1?

Hopefully you haven't infected any horses lately.

I don't even really like horses.

Supposedly somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-80% of adult Americans have HSV-1. I guess that means I'm finally grown up.

I thought that if you've ever had a cold sore then you've got it.

Yes, cold sores are HSV-1 outbreaks, but I don't remember ever having a cold sore.

Did you have an antibody blood test? My doctors have never suggested or done that (for HSV-1 or -2), including when I have specifically asked for full STD screenings.

Yeah, did a HSV 1 and 2 Western Blot. Full STD workup, thyroid check, hemogram, lipid panel, blah blah blah.

I have elevated cholesterol too. But that is not surprising.

I will probably ask for that test next time.

I'm medicated for cholesterol now; weight loss, diet, and quitting drinking didn't change the numbers much (although that last did wonders for my liver function numbers).

I read once that 95% of people will get it by the time they die. I get cold sores once every couple years. It's common for wrestlers to get it on their chest.

High cholesterol runs in the family. My dad eats things like steamed kale and does cardio 3x a week, and his cholesterol is still up around 268.

Ah, but check out the poll numbers! Maybe it's because that 44% haven't ever kissed anyone.

They probably just threw it in there when I asked for "The Works" because I go to UW Medical, which is the lab that processes all the other Western Blot tests for the country. Most people have to mail the blood here. I just walked next door and had it drawn in the lab.
