We do it at my company for flash retailers like Gilt. It's called "down-spec-ing" and it involves cheaper materials and just-in-time manufacture. But sometimes it really is overstock as well.

Jos A Bank has 70% off regular price and free shipping if you stack codes SEVENTY and FREESHIP

Bad deal for most of their stuff (since regular price is way inflated) but I picked up 2 pairs of shoe trees for $15+tax.

Shoe trees are rebranded woodlore or whatever...same trees AE sells and you can even unscrew the little plaque with JAB on it.

Probably not a bad deal if you need other random cedar goods (hangars and stuff) or even things like collar stays/shoelaces

For some reason I have trouble with the screw on the bigger piece falling out some times on the Jos A Bank ones. I don't have the full piece Woodlore ones though as I use the split toe wood lore ones.

My favorite part of this sale are the posts next week asking how to remove the JAB label from the shoe trees.

Small screwdriver will do it for you. Can barely even see the drilled holes. What's kind of fun is when the brass plate sticks to the cedar, and you get to pry it off. When it finally pops off, it's very cathartic.
