How do the numbers used by Japanese designers to designate sizes on shirts and jackets - 2, 3, 4, etc. - translate to U.S. or European measurments?

It depends on the brand itself, as each run slightly different, but in general a 2 would be about a US small, a 3 a medium, 4 large, 5 extra large, etc.
