Hitting Indianapolis for the day.

I'm catching the King Tut exhibit today. Any recommendations for dinner in the nearby proximity? Nice, casual, it's whatever. Anything good, interesting, and moderately priced will suit me just fine.

Also, is New Belgium available in Indy? If so, where would be a good place to pick up a case (or 3) of Fat Tire on my way back to Ohio?

Elements (10 minutes away)
Oceanaire (10 minutes)
Rathskeller (less than 10)
If you want something nicer, a trip up to the Glass Chimney in Carmel is worth it. (20 minutes)

If you want super casual, super cheap, but good food, there's a lot of little hole in the walls in Broad Ripple with good food. Good gyros, Mexican, and Americanized Italian and Chinese. You can find 50 of them just walking around.

If you have a car, every square inch of Indy is considered nearby proximity, IMO.

Cool, thanks. Of these, what would you consider the most unique, and "essential" to try when in the city? I'm working on a pretty limited budget for this trip, so I guess I'm wanting the best value.

First off, the exhibit is at the Childrens Museum. If you have never been there plan on spending the day, its consistenly voted as one of the best museums in the united states. Everything is interactive, new and fun. Dont let the "childrens" part scare you off - its a pretty awesome place. A real jewel of the city, IMO.

Second, the childrens museum is about equi-distant from the 2 area hotspots: downtown and broad ripple.

If your looking for something cheap and easy I recommend Bazbeauxs Pizza in the downtown area. Widely regarded as the best pie in the city. Right on Mass Ave so its just a short trip from the childrens museum and just a few blocks from the action of downtown where there are some nicer places to grab a cocktail if you choose later on.

OR you could go north to the broad ripple area. Its just a one street drag of mainly bars. I cant think of any fine dining establishments up there, but its the standard stuff you'd expect in a college town type area: bar food, burgers, etc...

My favorite is the Rathskeller. The food is great, if you like German food. They also have a lot of typical American foods too, so you can still go if you don't like schnitzels and all that. It is by far (IMO) the best place to drink beer in the city. If you're a fan of beer, you'll have fun. Rathskeller is by no means haute cuisine, but it's a fun time to go try some good German food and drink great beer. The people that work there are all nice, it's a pretty cool crowd that fills the place up, and since today is Friday, I imagine they'll have some kind of a musical act playing.

all joking aside, whenever I go back home I always hit up steak n shake. I consider that to be essential indy dining as growing up that was the "nice" place to go, hahaha. That and st. elmos.... but that aint cheap.

There are a shit ton of chain restaurants which Id steer clear of...

where you coming from man? I dont think fat tire is that rare but I dont know off the top of my head where it could be either.

The driver of the truck lost control, an explosion followed. No deaths, but a good stretch of I465 will be closed for weeks due to the overpass being severly compromised.

I'd try any grocery store. It's a joke you can't get in here (I'm in Cincinnati). I was down at a family reunion this summer south of Nashville and I saw it at the Wal Mart (I had purchased a couple cases warm at Whole Foods in Brentwood). They also had Yuengling which I like.

YATS in broad ripple: cheap, super casual, and delicious cajun food.

draws a friendly somewhat indie/yuppie crowd. Highly recommended and IMO the broadripple location is better than the mass ave one.
