I do not understand women's shoes

Thread Starter
I can see women's shoes and quickly decide if I like them. I can sort of see them on display and decide if I like them. But usually not, then they almost always look too loud and respulsive. But that's another matter....

What I cannot do is understand why one pair of heels costs $1000 and another costs $200. Outside of a label, is there any real difference?

With men's shoes, you get a substantial amount of quality. Leathers, soles, inners, fit, the ability to resole them should you need. For a grand many are even custom made.

What do you get out of $1000 Blahnik pumps? What does Christian Louboutin that warrants $500-800, aside from an earth-shattering idea of a red underside.

If it's simply for the label or whatever "prestige" value comes with such a purchase, that's fine. Different strokes for different folks. But I'd just like to know the real reason these things cost so much.

I'm sure more experienced SF member would share the insight. I wouldn't know anything about female shoes, but for myself personally, just a few years ago, I didn't even know squat about men's shoes, I thought Kenneth Cole square toes looked pretty eye-easy. I'd intentially go to department store's shoes section to absorb senses of shoes, style, leather, quality, worksmanship and all that. I still remember that confusing feeling, which I think applies to anything we are not familiar with.

I can actually tell the difference between expensive, well-made womens shoes, and really cheap knockoff ones. Especially when they are like next to my face, up in the air.

But seriously, once you see enough nice ones, and enough shitty ones, you definitely see the difference.

It's just that most of the time you're distracted by other things.

Also - a girl in Louboutins, YSLs, Diors, etc = +1/10 hot points. Also blahnik = meh. Louboutin = hotter, sexier, and more important sluttier.

Well, I don't know about the sluttiness of Louboutin. It's a complicated topic.

Women's shoes are just a world apart from men's. The thought of my wife wearing Goodyear-welted shoes just makes me a little sad. Sure, the value is there.... And you can get them resoled! But is that all there is?

The more I shop with my fiancee I can tell the difference between very low quality women's shoes and ones of better quality, however, my eye is not very refined, so I can tell what is junk and what is good, but I can't tell the difference between similar shaped/looking $300 shoes, $600 shoes and $900 shoes.

Is there a difference between a $40 and $200 shoe? Yes. You will see the difference in materials, feel, style, etc between those two price points just like in men's shoes. But the $200 shoe vs the $800 shoe? It's all about the label and status. I own several pairs of Louboutins and can attest to the fact that they are no more comfortable or well-made than any of my cheaper designer shoes. (In fact, a couple of them have started showing signs of wear and damage after only a couple wears.) But they have that hot red sole that attracts attention. I always start double-guessing my purchase until I start getting compliments on the street.....then just like that, it's all validated.

The best shoes are those which you can only imagine adorning the feet of a beautiful woman (and possibly being removed with your teeth). It's like a sword-in-the-stone kind of thing.

Who went to the same school as Tony Gaziano. With women's shoes, the difference is noticeable in the finishing details that are easier seen up close, such as a heel that's maybe 1mm off-center or exposed glue on the edges. For the most part, they're disposable since they're fashion items that change each year with fashion trends. Their pricing tends to be a "what the market will bear" thing; if people continue to pay $600 for Loubs, they'll keep charging it.

Been there, done that.

Oh and keeping just the shoes on = hot. While keeping just the socks on = fucking horrible.

I don't know, dude, I can tell a $50 shoe from a $350 shoe from like 10 feet away. Very few cheap shoes "flow" and "look" right once your eyes are good at distinguishing crap. Just like a crappy suit.

There was a study of woman's orgasms and they found that over 30% of them couldn't get topped off because their feet were cold. Once they put on socks the problem was solved.
