My personal experience has been with Audi. Friends of mine have had bad experiences with MB's and BMW's... I guess YMMV.

You won't regret it, they're terrific.

The SL was a great car until 2002. I wouldn't buy a 2005. The interior is cheap, the build quality went down. I think MB compromised quality for cost cutting during those years hence the new slogan that MB is back and building to a standard rather than a price.

2007 S600, 18k miles, been driving it as its my friends car.....its pretty fast. Considering I used to have a 1000+Hp Street legal Camaro......the S is still pretty fast....pretty damn fast...

Regards.
PS. Rear window shade motor, command module, AC panel and hands free phone were all replaced last month.

Basically, they used to 'over-engineer' the cars up to the late 80's, and by the time rthe 90's rolled around MB dramatically cut back on the R&D side to increase profits, and with the proliferation of insanely complex electronics and mostly gimmicky extras, well... you get the MB of today.
