I am going to be in South Beach for 3 days and Ft. Lauderdale for 2 days (with a 3-night cruise in between) at the end of November, just wanting look up stuff to do beforehand.

Food, Shopping, Bars/Patios, Sightseeing, etc. Up for anything.

Thanks!

Ft. Lauderdale - River Walk (there's this giant bar there...forget the name. great sloppy drunk time).
Coral Gables - Tarpon Bend seafood restaurant. Anytime I'm there (2-3 times a year) i always go for a platter of oysters. Theres another location in ft. lauderdale.
South Beach - The fointaineblue hotel. great lobby bar and night club. If you don't want to deal with $30 door cover or bottle service just hang out at the lobby bar. It's pretty hopping by 12-1am. It's nice for people watching too.

Nothing to report in terms of shopping or culture. 95% of time there is spent being driven to or from the airport, recovering from a hangover or drinking.

For a ton of ideas look up the Miami section of concierge.com they have suggestions for bars, stores, galleries.

I don't understand this question. What isn't there to do in Miami? Even in November, any list that doesn't start with "hit the beaches" should be automatically ruled out. Obviously, South Beach for shopping and women. The new Fountainbleu is like a Vegas club now. Crazy. Must go to Joe's for the stone crabs and key lime pie. They call it an institution for a reason. Ft. Lauderdale - the only thing to do is go downtown and drink and go to the beach. That's it. If you go a bit south you can hit up the Hard Rock complex for some gambling/prostitution.

I've never been, and iwth the compressed itinerary I'd like to have somewhat of a plan then to waste 3 days on the beach. Plus I am going with my girlfriend, so clubbing and picking up chicks is out of the question lol.

Not bad. Well, you're right on the beach in both hotels so that shouldn't be a problem and in the think of things (SoBea & downtown Ft. Laud). Really, outside of hunting down specific stores, all you really need to do is reserve a few good restaurants and enjoy your time. Make sure to hit up the Hard Rock one night while you're in Ft. Laud.

Shopping in SoBe: check out The Alchemist on Lincoln Road. Base is there too, and they sell music/books along with clothes. There's also a Co-Op and Atrium on Collins. Shopping elsewhere: Bal Harbour (on the beach but heading north, past Aventura) is for big timers; they've got RL, Ferragamo, Neiman/Saks, Valentino etc. etc. Things to do: Lincoln Road in South Beach is nice for some food/drink--great place to take a Sunday post-hangover walk with the gf. Hard Rock is also fun--there's actually a club area there worth checking out. Can't think of anything else for now.

Shoot me a PM when you arrive. I live in sunny isles (north miami beach).

There's a lot of shopping in Ft. Lauderdale. Maus & Hoffman comes to mind. There's also a huge mall there with all the upscale department stores.

I used to live in Fort Lauderdale. I don't know much about the shopping, but you can find any store you could ever want, just google it. I preferred to go shopping in West Palm Beach, but with SoFla traffic that outpost was a good 45 minute hike. Las Olas is the street the forms a T with A1-A on the beach and is pretty much the starting point if you want to go on an all day drinking / beach excursion. The Elbow Room is a long time establishment of Fort Lauderdale, and if you are looking for a beach bar then that is it. I believe it is on the intersection Las Olas and A1-A, south of 13th Court. Just don't go South of the Yankee Clipper Hotel, there's nothing to do past that. North of Yankee Clipper, South of 15th Court and you will find plenty to do while you are drunk and getting sunburned.

You could do what most people come to SoFLA to do: die. Seriously though most of the suggestions given so far are pretty good. If you decide to go to Palm Beach go to Worth Ave. You could also check out Whitehall. If you are close to the Miami / Coral Gables border you can go to Viscaya. Avoid Boca like the plague. Trust me, I live here.

Not the clubs though, they are subpar compared to Miami.

How is LIV? I haven't been there yet.
