Do you know any carnies or have any experience with them? A friend of mine has been offered a job touring the country as a carnie and is considering it.

Does your friend have all of his teeth?

I have a cousin, who I haven't seen since I was a kid, who was a welder and joined a traveling carnival. he apperently has done very well for himself, although I am guessing that everything is relative.

My cousin was a Carnie for a while. I vaguely remember his stories but many of them consisted of extensive drug use and then operating heavy machinery. The next time I expect to see him is Christmas so I will ask him for you guys.

My wife worked as an elf one year escorting kids to the Christmas carnival at the Emporium. She came into contact with some of the carnies who ran the place, and said they were creepy as fuck.

As creepy as you asking her to wear the costume years later?

She still fits into her cheerleader uniform from high school.

And with this comment you show you came of age in the 80s, you guys have almost a Pavlovian response to cheerleader outfits.

Years ago, I went out with an American girl who had been to a Catholic school, yet I never asked her to don her Catholic schoolgirl uniform.

I vaguely regret this, I would have liked to see what all the fuss is about.

Yes.

And no meth amphetamine habit.

And a four year degree in a science-related field.

I guess two of those three can change, but they can't take your degree from you

We didn't have cheerleaders at my school, so the whole thing did seem like a big deal.

We did have a Catholic school next door, so girls in their uniforms weren't terribly exciting. Now, however, I remember them fondly.

My roommate did three months of carnie work before college. He did drugs. It sounds like a shitty idea unless you're hopeless.

It is cool if you like sleeping in trucks and doing meth while earning minimum wage. But we can't all live like Mr. Moo.
