Best navy blazer ~$500

Without going into the realms of B&S and Ebay, what are my best options at around that price range? If it's sort of in the area of nothing real good, should I just go for a lower (200-300) range one instead?

I've said over and over, you don't need to spend 500-800 on a sport jacket to look good, especially when purchasing a common blue blazer, the hard part is... choosing gold buttons or dark ones. I will reiterate, if you have the money and want to spend big money on clothes, by all means buy the best, go for it, but if your watching your pennies, you don't need to spend big money to have a fabulous look, all you need is a good fit and/or good tailor.

Most people wouldn't know a high price jacket or suit by looking at it, but they may associate the clothes are high price because of the man wearing the clothes. If you see a power person wearing a suit or blue blazer, you probably assume the apparel cost big money, you would never think he's wearing a 150-300 blue blazer.

I will reiterate again...

The man makes the clothes... the clothes don't make the man. Buy a blazer on sale/retail for 150-300 dollars, have it tailored to perfection, you'll look fantastic.

Example... i was at a party sunday, i wore a wool dark blue suit (emanuel ungaro) with a black polo/golf shirt, most people wore jeans, it was and stated casual dress on the invitation. When i got a complement on the fit, that said it all. The suit cost me 129.00 last year at a blowout sale.

Shop smart

To the untrained eyes maybe.

You wouldn't do too bad if you wait for a Hugo Boss Black Label sale in your area tbh - pretty solid blazers really

Tend to agree that blazer is basic enough that you can go lower and then add a flourish with a button change. But can't you get Brooks Brothers in that $500 range? I think of BB = basics = blue blazers.

I picked up a nice Versace Collection navy blazer at Saks Off 5th over Columbus Day for ~$400 with the various discounts, fits beautifully. More than I had wanted to spend on a jacket but I fell in love.

Anderson-Little is very inexpensive and well thought of - I went with a Lands End for informal use and have been pretty happy with it.

I think BB is perfectly fine in this area, but have it tailored to be more fitted. Also wait for a sale. I would bet you could find the style you like for $300 - 400 before the end of the year.

I paid about $400 plus alterations and tax for a dark navy BB DB "Country Club" blazer - a very nice look. However, I bought it at the 30% off "friends-and-family" sale a couple of weeks ago.

+1 on the Anderson Little blue blazer

Get one, get it tailored to your liking (if necessary), look fantastic, and save a bunch of money.

My cost was under $200 and with a perfect fit.

That's what I did, and I've been VERY happy.

I don't understand why you would purposely avoid B&S...

The website says they are "wool blend", do you know what this blend is?
