Quick Job Interview question

the missus is in school getting her Masters, meantime she is looking for a Mon-Fri part time job and has a 2nd interview tomorrow. She has worked here before and they are very positive towards rehiring those who have had previous employment so chances are she'd get the job since there are a few positions available.

question is, she is going to be taking time off in Dec between Xmas-NYE when we go to London so that would be missing 4 days from work. Then in late winter (1st week of March) she is going to be gone for another week. Should she disclose this in the 2nd interview, or just wait until the time comes and spring it on them at that time? On one hand, they may be receptive towards her honesty, but then there's always the good chance it will be a turnoff as a potential hire.

what's the prudent thing to do in this case?

I just interviewed and hired a new employee who informed me of a two week vacation he'd already put in for and planned at his prior company which would have taken place two weeks after he was hired. It didn't affect my decision at all.

Disclose. I did this when hiring on to my current gig, but for me it was honeymooon, not really negotiable.

yea the more i think of it, it's not even a debatable point, in that she should disclose.

Yeah I'd go the same way and I've had this issue arise before.

During the hiring process, I had a new hire fail to disclose a vacation that was already planned/booked. It was just sprung on me after the offer and acceptance were all done. That really pissed me off.

Something to think about.

Since it is not a lot of time off and not immediate, I would raise it at the time of an offer/acceptance, not at the interview. Of course, YMMV.

Raise the issue after the offer is extended and before her acceptence.

Agreed.

I think everyone agrees to disclose with both HR and find out who her reporting senior would be.

I was in a similar situation and spoke to several HR professionals and this was what they all recommended.

she disclosed, will find out friday. Since it's a small-timer part-time job not a big deal if she gets it or not but it raised an interesting question for us.
