Not necessarily. You gain weight, yes, but not necessarily fat. If your training and diet are correct, you hopefully gain lean muscle mass.

eating and losing weight is like having debt

the way people combine eating/exercise it's like owing $1000, you pay off $500 thinking you've paid down a lot of your debt then go on to spend another $700 on that card.

I personally have found that when I exercise regularly, I also watch more of what I eat. In other words, I don't want to squander my hard work and not see any results because I decided to finish off that bag of doritos.

The trick is not to open or even purchase the bag of doritos in the first place.

You've got to do both. . .Exercise. . .resistance training for tone and strength and cardio for your heart. . .Most importantly. . .when it comes to weight management. . .It's easier to do push aways (from the table) than pushups.

That's actually a psychological pattern seen in people who consciously exercise - they start eating healthier. More muscle = more calorie burning, even when being idle.

Yep, that's how I feel too! I try and fit in my exercise first thing so I don't overeat during the day and undo all the hard work.
