How does a Benjamin Sartorial suit compare to a Caruso suit?

I need to make a staple suit purchase soon, and they both look great.

I just received a Caruso from eHaberdasher, and have one of their older Benjamins (the slimmer model, Lucente I believe). They key comparisons I've noticed:

• Caruso is 3/2.5, Benjamin is 2B
• Both are basted for working buttonholes, and come without buttons attached
• Benjamin is slimmer cut. Slimmer lapels as well.
• Benjamin has higher button stance, which is somewhat odd for a two button. I understand the new models have a lower button stance though.
• Surprisingly nice lapel roll on the Benjamin. The Caruso as well, but this is expected.
• Construction on the Benjamin actually compares pretty favorably--the Caruso is definitely nicer, but it's not as much of a difference as the price difference would lead you to expect. I've only had it for about 6 months (and the Caruso for only a week, and haven't even worn it yet) so I'm no authority on this, but the fit and finish on the Benjamin is nice for its price.
• Nicer buttons on the Benjamin. Why Caruso would put crappy plastic buttons on a $2000 suit is beyond me. Easy fix though...

Anything specific you're looking for? I've posted pics of both suits before, the Caruso today actually--look through my older posts (note that the Caruso has had no tailoring done, while the Benjamin is post-tailor).

Hmmm the lapels do appear smaller, not so much that they look bad though. The Benjamin is 140's. The highest I've gone is a 130's Isaia. Any idea what Caruso uses?

The shoulders on both are lightly padded--neither is totally natural, but also not heavily padded at all. The Benjamin does have a bit more roping on the shoulder than the Caruso. As for fabric, not sure--I'm sure that Caruso uses all sorts of fabrics. I believe that the one I have is a VBC based on eHaberdasher's description, but I don't know weight or supers number.

Should also add that the pants are slimmer on the Benjamin. Also, the Benjamin is flat front, while my Caruso is single forward pleat--though I'm sure they make flat fronts as well. Both have rises on the shorter side.

How does the Benjamin compare to a Valentino Roma? Which would you rather have?

FYI Valentino Roma is half canvassed, for what it's worth. Personally not a fan of garments that have any fusing in it - they're stiff. But for the price the Valentino's really are a great buy... not too many sizes left though (mostly big guy sizes). Another way to put it - I don't wear any Valentino Roma, but all my suits are Benjamins!

Anybody know how wide the lapels are on the Benjamin? I'm very skinny and wide lapels just look wrong on me. The BB Fitzgerald was barely slim enough : /

Suggest contact them - they will doubtless respond accurately.

The lapels on the Lucente and Granoro models are 3" wide straight across - far from wide but certainly not fashion-forward narrow either... hope that helps!
