Never run alone again.

I confess that my daily runs are enhanced and motivated by listening to a variety of weekly podcasts. There is no shortage of fantastic podcasts for and by runners. Two of my favorites are:

Brandon's Marathon http://brandonsmarathon.com

Brandon is an opera singer who lives in NYC and is a triathlete. An engaging personality, great interviews, a good running companion.

Pheddipidations http://www.steverunner.com

Steve "Runner" is a computer engineer who lives in New England. Truly, this is the "Prairie Home Companion" of running podcasts.

What are your favorites?

I'm the opposite. Running is an opportunity to turn off all the outside noises and listen to the thoughts inside my own head.

I usually just listen to music...although I have listened to the local sports radio show a couple times while running during the daytime.

I've been using Podrunner for the last few weeks. It seems pretty good, tho some of the beats are a little awkward to run with.

I think Ipods are wonderful little toys especially if you can hook them into your car stereo. When it comes to working out and running, I don't want to be cut off from my surroundings.

Most of the time, I run without the iPod. But, for me, there are days when I don't want to go out and do the run--too hot, too rainy, and now, too cold. And soon, snow and ice. But, listening to a fellow runner's adventure or opinion gets me out the door, and with a "companion", I don't seem to mind facing the elements.

if you are riding a bike while listening to music go ahead and choke yourself. if i run on a trail or something and i have an ipod i usually just end up zoning out and not listening to it so i normally don't carry one

Might not be the best idea, and possibly illegal in some areas, but yeah, I ride with headphones on on occasion. I only do it when i'm home, I ride mostly on back roads, and my headphones don't entirely block out noise. In addition I check behind me very frequently. Most of the time I just ride though.

I did it when i was first starting out cycling but i rode on the sidewalk then i hated it and got on the street and wore one in the ear facing he opposite side of the road but here in the city it's impossible. It's to dangerous for me, not to mention i just got brakes haha..maybe a little hypocritical but i was riding fixed. They do make headphone that don't block out any road noise but i am sure they are expensive.

+1. The shit people try to do on bikes is insane, especially when they're on the road. I don't think they understand that there are several 1-2 ton deathboxes screaming at you at double your speed at any given time, most of whom don't notice or could care less that you are on their asphalt.
