Knowing a little bit about the history of shoes, I am inclined to think your bias is something of a very recent thing, historically speaking, and perhaps informed by images and associations that might be suspect, at best. And perhaps...hopefully...a cultural and temporal anomaly. But that's just my opinion. And you have yours...and you're welcome to it, as far as I'm concerned.

Of all the vintage shoes I have seen or possess the Stetson brand is the best and most spectacular. Fortunately there is a museum with a lot of the old stuff and the factory has been reused.

I think a symmetrical toe goes a long way with tiled leathers. Some of those lasts are curvy and look a bit odd with the straight lines of the scales.

No unless there was some distant relationship from Pilgrim days.

The Jason Holbrook Homestead, circa 1763, is home to the Weymouth Historical Society. The Homestead houses our Genealogical Library with Weymouth Records to the 1600's. The Homestead also hosts multiple exhibits including the Shoe Shop, which is original to the Homestead. The Shoe Shop has a collection of shoe making tools ranging from the days of the "Ten Footer" to original machines from the Stetson Shoe Company.

These ones are...beautiful! This is the kind of shoe I would go for if going for alligator/croc.
Now, thinking about it, going for this kind of leathers, my first choice might actually be a pair of ankle boots. I believe to remember that last years Zegna catalogue included a pair of really beautiful croc or alligator ankle boots. I guess quite overpriced, though, as a lot of Zegna stuff, IMO.
There is something "special" about ankle boots, something "pimp-y", maybe, that just calls for scales. (Don't get me wrong, I am a great fan of ankle boots. )

These shoes are gorgeous! Why do you think they chose not to do the eyestays in skin to complete the shoe? It doesnt really bother me, but just curious on opinions.

If anyone has info on that pair of black croc ankle boots shown earlier in the thread... Im salivating.

mr. monty would know for sure, but I believe I saw them or a pair like them in Saks (Chicago) and that they are Mezlan. I could be mistaken though.

Bespoke Gaziano... Paid quite a bit for them but they're stunning.

Always get compliments when i wear them , not that often to confess..
