I'd go with Charleston, SC. Geechies, old school culture and faded aristocratic sorts.

Are we talking interesting people or "interesting" people?

Nothing tops the "interesting" folks around Santa Cruz.

I have no idea where normal interesting folks can be found in large numbers.
